Eby Boys Transport 11.05.2021

2020 has been a weird year, we can all agree on that! For us, it's been Covid, cancer, construction and celebration. All the while, continuing to run Eby Boys. 6 months ago today, Amanda had her last chemo treatment. This week, she was interviewed by author Lynn McLaughlin for her podcast Taking the Helm, and her YouTube channel. For those of you who were aware of the cancer journey, and who ask how she is...we'll let Amanda explain.... https://youtu.be/JGEQ-bmdO3w

You get what you pay for. Cutting corners or in this case an axle, and running around overloaded for a few weeks. Today, his luck ran out. A tire blew on the remaining axle of this OLEX regular. He dragged a one wheel trailer down the Expressway AFTER the tire blew to OLEX. Waterloo Regional on the scene.

Animal rights terrorists have once again targeted our nation’s food supply. On this holiday Monday they descended on a turkey farm run by a Hutterite colony in ...southern Alberta. They illegally entered the barns before the farmers started their morning chore rounds, trespassing and breaking biosecurity, and putting the birds under immense stress and bringing with them the threat of disease. I watched part of the livestream. I’m not a poultry farmer, but to my eye there were no issues of abuse or neglect on this farm. The animals had plenty of room to roam, including outdoor access (barely shown on the live feed by the way). The birds looked healthy and content, albeit rather nervous because of the dozens of trespassers who had invaded their barn and interrupted their daily routine. As per usual, when the police attended the farm to deal with the activists, the group presented their list of demands. They wanted to rescue a number of birds, they requested to not be arrested, and they demanded that the media be given a tour. And, the cops acquiesced on all except the media request, from what I could gather from the livestream. (Correct me if I’m wrong or if the situation has recently changed.) I just don’t understand it. These terrorists are breaking the law - trespassing on private property, breaking biosecurity protocol, jeopardizing the health and safety of the birds, and causing mental trauma to the farmers who are doing their job, providing food for the public. Why why WHY are these terrorist demands met?! Why are the cops negotiating with them?! Friends, it’s time to fight back. Enough is enough. Make no mistake: these activists have no desire to improve animal welfare on farms. They aim to end all animal agriculture. Period. Are we going to stand back and let them run roughshod over the entire animal agriculture industry, and threaten and bully and harass the good people who feed the vast majority of our citizens who choose to include animal products in their diets and lives?? While I have no issue whatsoever with people who choose to avoid animal products, they have no right to tell us what we can and cannot eat. And they definitely have no right to terrorize the hard working people who provide good food for the public. So what can we do to help? The laws need to change. We’re part of a democracy and our voice MATTERS! I’ve been in contact with several of our provincial elected and non-elected government officials regarding this on-farm and online domestic terrorism. I’d strongly suggest you do the same! I’ve received feedback from several government officials who were quite unaware at the impact of this type of activity on our farmers’ mental health and well-being and the feeling of constantly being under threat. They want and NEED to hear from other farmers as well as from you - the public - who are concerned about the precedents set by these actions and the apparent lack of follow up and repercussions for the law breakers. Do you value your locally and ethically produced food? Let your government officials know! They’re elected to work for us, and they need to know that this is a real and growing problem. Please, reach out to your MLA or MPP, your federal MP, your provincial minister of agriculture and the federal minister for agriculture. I will post a form letter in the comments that you are welcome to use and share: one for farmers and one for consumers. Thank you in advance for your help! Your farmers appreciate you! ***Edited to add - For those of you wondering at the use of the word terrorist: no, it’s not a gratuitous grab at shock value or hysteria. The definition of terrorist reads a person who uses unlawful violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political gains. Receiving horrific death threats and being subject to sustained harassment, along with dire promises to attack your business and home simply because you, a law abiding citizen, provide food for the public qualifies as violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims (the activists aim to end all animal agriculture). If the shoe fits... ***
