Sorry for any confusion from our previous post. The town playgrounds are slowly re opening but wild rose school division playgrounds are not opening at this time.

Hey! Remember us? We want to bring play to you at home! We are putting together outdoor play packages to give away to you - chalk, bubbles, a soccer ball and a skipping rope! There is a limited amount available, due to stores ordering capacity. The first 50 families to contact us will be eligible to receive a package! An extra special thank you to Adam Hodgson Zach, Lawrence and Rylan for staying until 10:00 last night to finish the demo!

We had an amazing group of volunteers out yesterday. They were able to get the playground completely removed in one evening !!! Only sand removal and a few items left for today. We hope to have the new playground up and ready within the next two weeks :)

Today was an exciting day; demolition of the old yellow playground at Eldorado Elementary has began and is making room for our new inclusive playground thank you to all of our volunteers from Fortis, Connect Automation, and Hodgson Contracting for all their hard work theyre putting into this demolition. Thank you Hogdson Contracting , DV rentals, TBWL & Hayduk for donating the equipment needed for this project. And thank you to Panago & Burger baron for donating meals to keep our volunteers fed

We are a bit behind in posting but here is the video of our amazing guest speaker from our Valentines Gala. It is a bit of a lengthy video, but most definitely worth the time to watch:)

Second Annual Valentines Gala raises over $8,000 for new playground By Cathy Weetman Western Review They may have been small in number but generous with thei...r purse strings as attendees at the second annual Valentines Gala contributed enough cash that the event raised over $8,000 to go toward a new accessible playground at Eldorado School. The event was held on February 9 at the MacKenzie Centre, and featured a sumptuous roast beef and chicken supper courtesy of Cobbelstone Caf, followed by short speeches from Joumana Baroudi Issa, whose daughter Lily is in grade 2 at Eldorado and would benefit from specialized playground equipment, Wildrose School Division Board Chair Russ Hickman and guest speaker Chelsea Hagan. Helping the evening run smoothly again this year was none other than former mayor Moe Hamdon, who brought with him a brand new selection of jokes. Issa stated that her daughter can neither walk nor talk, but all kids deserve to feel equal and included. In his speech, Hickman noted, The Eldorado School Playground Committee has a fun evening of comedy, raffles, silent auctions, music, dancing and a bar, all designed to raise money for an accessible playground for Eldorados students and Drayton Valleys children of all ages. Users will enjoy these inclusive playground features: a Volta Inclusive Spinner, a universally designed spinner with seating for wheel chair transfer so everyone can play; the Volito, a swing with a large disc-like seat perfect for children of all abilities to interact. All are connected with wheelchair accessible ramps to other inclusive features and designed to Accessibility Guidelines. Hickman also spoke about Eldorado Schools 100th anniversary in 2015 and the completion of the Evergreen Replacement School in January of 2021. The board supports the playground committees vision for the future and the flexible innovative planning they have done to make this accessible playground structure a lasting and durable gift from the community. Wildrose is proud of the Eldorado Playground committee. Their efforts to provide a needed inclusive play facility exemplify our divisions fundamental beliefs. The Eldorado committees commitment to growth, designing creative learning environments, their compassionate support and demonstration of respect for individual circumstances, supports the well-being of all students. The committees efforts affirm that all students have dignity, purpose and hope, on and off of Eldorados play structure. Eldorado School teacher Marlee Turnbull played a short video which interviewed students at the school as to whether they would like a new playground and why they would like it. Some students replied the current playground equipment is too old and most said they would like a new playground for everybody to enjoy. Guest speaker Chelsea Hagan returned to the stage again this year to update attendees on how she is doing as an adult and how a new school playground can still be beneficial to her. She was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at age one and at age two, she received a speaking device and has never looked back since then. I have added to my speech from last year how being included has made me a competent adult, said the writer, actor, ambassador and speaker. I acted in two commercials and two of my own short filmsand Im an artist and selling airbrush art using my head. Its called Noggin Art by Chelsea and Ive donated two of my paintings to the auction. She spoke about meeting a friend on the school playground, where they used to swing side-by-side, and on the days when she was unable to go outside, she was forced to stay inside with the teachers, who talked about boring things such as what they had for supper, how much things cost or the news. Im 22 years old, so a lot of my stories came from being on the playground. Kids like me have super powers. We have the power to make kids more passionate, well-adjusted, kind and caring, Hagan said. And as for her playground friend? Hagan said they remained close and she attended her friends wedding as a bridesmaid and still visits her and her family. Providing light hearted entertainment for the evening were comedians William Hannigan and last years opening act, Steve McGovern, who spoke about glue traps, his mom Geraldine and teaching school, where he learned life lessons from preschool children to senior high students. Rounding out the evening was a champagne raffle, opening of bids from the silent auction, draws for a television and helicopter ride and a dance featuring DJ Jeff Sparks. Eldorado Playground Committee Chair Jen Myslicki summed up this years gala with these words, We dont have all our final invoices in yet so I dont have an exact number, but we made over $8000 at the gala, which is incredible. We had such a wonderfully supportive group of guests who were extremely generous. Even with times being as tough as they are right now our community continues to come together to support one another and projects such as the inclusive playground and its one of the reasons Im proud to call Drayton my home.
