Fat Dave

This post goes out to any local small business who is going to be inoperable under this next lockdown. I make puzzles and mugs, among other things. I'm going to be making a "stay home" package for people to support local business during the lockdown. It will consist of a 300 piece puzzle and 2 15 oz. coffee mugs. I'll find an image of Brantford (not sure what yet) and I'll have space for 9 logos to be put on the puzzle and mugs. All the proceeds after cost will be divided up ...equally between the 9 businesses. (And to clarify, there is no cost for any business to do this, the items will all be made on demand). Hoping to be able to make these available by Monday. Shoot me a message if you're interested in having your business take part. Checkerboard Floors are one of the first groups of guys to jump on board with me on the Fat Dave idea. Their music will get you through many a long weekend. They play the songs you love! I love the versatility of the new DTG printer.... I do not love the clogged print head. It appears there was particulate in the black ink and it's jammed things up. This has taken nearly all my attention getting it fixed for the past two days and new black ink is set to arrive today. Hoping to be back up and running this afternoon (come on delivery truck!). Although this has been a royal pain it has allowed me to learn troubleshooting and maintenance of this machine before I ...have a huge queue of shirts to print on it. In a round about way, it could turn out to be a positive stumble.... it just wasn't convenient timing, but stuff like this never is. Challenges like these are part of starting up any new process and I'm happy to hit them head on. I absolutely love how Fat Dave is building! Even though it's been an arduous week, it's Friday so I'll be shutting down at 3:30 to go for a pint with Trace. It's what we do, part of the balance albeit starting a business knocks that balance of kilter from time to time. Thanks to everyone for all the support to date. We have this gem in the city that not enough people know about, the Canadian Military Heritage Museum . I'm told it's the 2nd largest collection of military artifacts in the country, after the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa... right here! The doors have been closed since the start of the pandemic and they're looking forward to being able to welcome everyone through the doors again! New year, onward! As things have progressed and Fat Dave is growing, I've run out of space working from home. During the current lock down McGonagalls Pub is temporarily closed and I've been able to utilize the unused space. From that, I've been offered the storage room in the basement here as a home for Fat Dave (thanks mum & dad). This week I set to starting the renovation of that space and will it will be complete when the lockdown is finished. In the mean time I'm worki...ng out of the pub and curbside is now available. You can also support McGonagalls by picking up a beer or 12 too. If the Fat Dave jeep is out front, bang on the door for curbside. This afternoon I had the pleasure and uniquely humbling experience of visiting the folks at the @BrantfordFoodBank to pass along the funds raised though the inaugural Feedstival. We were able to top it up a bit from the original and got to $888! Thank you to all of the musicians, @lucasgralewicz , Jeanna at MinutemanPress , everyone at Knights of Columbus , all of my family and friends who volunteered their time and to all who attended Feedstival. Without you guys I wouldnt... have been able to make that donation on all of your behalf! We had a great day of tunes, laughs, table dancing and were able to raise $700 for the food bank. The inaugural Feedstival event took place August 22nd, 2020 in the beer Garden at the Knights of Columbus hall. The event was in support of the Brantford Food Bank. The musical acts were Greenwaters, Monique Hunsley, Cody James Wood, Checkerboard Floors, Joey Vinegar and Fifth Temple with Lucas Gralewicz controlling the board. Through our ticket sales we were able to raise $700 to help others in our community. A great many thanks to the Knights of Columbus for donating their ...venue, to my friends and family who generously gave their time to help pull this off, Dave Hunsley for taking many of these great photos, to all of the musicians who came out, and played for us, to Jeanna and Minuteman Press Brantford who donated the tickets and posters for the day and to all those who bought tickets to help raise money for a good cause. Cant wait to do it again!

We have fantastic musicians, there are visual artist who can make us think, laugh and feel and then there are the independent iconic businesses present in the forefront of so many memories of growing up. We're living in a new world though, one where many of these folks don't have their normal avenues of distribution. That's where Fat Dave comes in, we're here to help these folks get their creativity out, to become a central platform of distribution for them. The goal of Fat Dave is to work with these artist, musicians and businesses to get to their ideas in your hands and hearts... while having some fun building a brand to do it with. So if you're still here or have moved off and want a part of home, we're for you. Awesome time last night. This was us getting set up... and by us I mean I had a beer and watched them. Everything came off and the Empty Hours sounded great. A couple of miss steps with the website that Ill get sorted today (no idea why the 360 images dont load on mobile) and a couple of orders to fulfill. Although I'd love to have people live at the show, I just can't. Putting the finishing touches on the site so it'll all be ready. 20 different designs by local artists, 6 musician designs, 9 musician releases and another Dave I know. Had another fantastic group of people help me out Monday and this evening to get all of our neighborhood logo photo shoots done, thank you all for helping out. We even had a Brantford legend play along and get in one of the photos for us. Many thanks to JJ Seager for capturing exactly the feel I was going for in the images.
