Happy Winter Solstice! A beautiful time to rest, reflect & rejuvenate. If you are looking for me, I'll be cozied up, snug as bug, for the next few months. I'll be surrendering to my body, mind and soul's desire for rest. I'll be turning inward, both literally into my home and figuratively into my heart. This is the time for reflection and connection. December slowly transitions us into Winter which brings with it a beautiful silence that helps me really listen to what my int...uition is telling me. I will take each moment a little slower so that I can allow each cuddle with my children to last a little longer. I will cozy up next to the fire and watch snowflakes fall and surrender to the love around me. I will create home cooked meals that will keep my husband and I talking around the table for hours. 2020 was ...well...a raging dumpster fire at best. A year I'd soon like to put behind me. But when I look back at these photos I'm brought back to moments that were actually quite amazing. It was another year I fully embraced and believed that I am more than enough, just as I am. It was a year filled with ups and downs, battles and victories, laughter and tears, moments of pure bliss and ones that made it nearly impossible to breathe. I was pushed to the limit with personal s...truggles but was somehow able to find the strength to not only keep going but to still feel gratitude for every new day. Feeling grateful wasn't always done with a smile and did NOT always mean things were ok but it meant I realized how lucky I am to have had another day, another chance to experience life. I was hit hard with a few harsh realities this year but learned to appreciate the beauty in the mundane. The daily rituals and responsibilities of being me - a Mama, wife, daughter, sister, friend, entrepreneur, even a teacher... that sometimes felt overwhelming, annoying and frustrating became privileges. Each one flowing into the next all added up to many simple yet beautiful and blessed days. I will never take a single one for granted. I forge my own path with my beautiful family in tow and I trust my inner guide knows exactly where we're headed in 2021. Do you know the legend of the Labradorite stones? The legend says that the lights of the Aurora Borealis were trapped inside rocks along the coast of Labrador in Canada, until one day an Inuit Warrior came and struck the rock with his spear to free them. Freckleface's simple "how to" for meditating with mala beads... 1. Choose your favourite mala beads and find a quiet place to sit comfortably, preferably somewhere with an open window to welcome in fresh air. Sit up straight, put a cushion under your bottom to alleviate strain on your back, close your eyes and begin to slow your breathing by concentrating on taking longer, slower and deeper breaths. 2. Choose an affirmation or mantra that reflects the intentions you've set f...or your day. If you're not comfortable with mantras just yet then just use the flow of each inhale and exhale as your guide. 3. Hold your beads in your right hand with the tassel or focal stone facing towards you. Hold the guru or base bead between your thumb and middle finger. Use one bead for each mantra or breath by using your thumb to pull the next bead towards you. Repeat this for the full 108 beads ending back at the guru bead. If you choose to complete a full round and would like to continue on then stop at the guru, flip the beads in your hands so your next count will start to count back on the beads instead of crossing over tassel. Don't worry if your mind wanders, just return to the beads, breath or mantra. Pulling the beads towards you welcomes welcomes positive, loving energy into your heart. The index finger symbolizes the ego so keep it pointed out during repetitions. Choose your mantra carefully so that it feels sincere to your intentions and helps support the feeling of peace, calm, love and comfort within. Including essentials oils, incense, crystals, singing bowls and bells are all beautiful additions to your daily ritual. The most important point to remember is that there is no one-size-fits-all way to meditate. You do you! Being mindful of the energy you want to put out into the world and learning to protect yourself from the pressure of daily stresses by reserving even a few minutes of each day to slow down, pay attention to what your mind and body are telling you and listen, really listen to what your soul is saying.
