It boggles the mind to discover how long it took to get this off the market. https://earthjustice.org//what-you-need-to-know-about-chlo

Tonight Lanark County Council votes to take the Mayors Monarch pledge for 2021. This means they will take steps to protect the butterfly... they will still spray the roads but must be shown to reduce herbicide use. Will Leeds and Grenville mayors take the pledge?

Friends of Lanark County 22.09.2020

Good luck, hope you can convince them!

Fantastic. They had no other recourse than to do this action!

Sharing information about the struggle in Nova Scotia regarding herbicide use.

Thankfully Lanark County recognizes the value of allowing flowering plants to grow on the roadsides. They have adjusted their mowing practices, reduced herbicide use and now there are roads with flowering goldenrod and asters which are perfect late flowering plants for monarchs and bees. In contrast, the adjacent Counties of Leeds and Grenville still boom sprays half of the roads every second year, mows in August and gets that golf green look that the public seems to like. Oh look, one small milkweed seems to have survived the mowing! Wake up L and G! Narrows Lock Rd near the locks and County Rd. 42 outside of Athens.

Again, so much for hiring professionals to do herbicide spraying. Could they at least know what milkweed looks like? Pine Grove Road Aug.6th.

We are taking the government to court In the wake of the passage of Ontario's controversial Bill 197, we started a legal challenge against the legislation alo...ng with Earthroots, the Canadian Environmental Law Association (CELA), Cooper Price, a 16-year old activist, and Michel Koostachin, who was born and raised in Attawapiskat. Destroying our insects..... why can’t people tolerate mosquitoes? They scare the public into thinking its necessary.

Our work on pesticide awareness has led us to understand that pesticide exposure is often cited as the triggering event for Multiple Chemical Sensitivities. Thousands of Ontario residents suffer from this and the numbers are growing. Consider signing this petition. Please consider signing and sharing it, as it's a step towards a healthier environment. https://petitions.ourcommons.ca/en/Petition/Details

There's no love here for pollinators here on County roads in Leeds and Grenville. Looks tidy? Yes, but it's a pollinator desert. No goldenrod, no asters for the monarch and bees to feed on in the late summer and early fall. There are no plants left that can outcompete the invasives. Is this what people want? If not, let the public works office in Brockville know. Otherwise it's same old. We have already tried. Narrows Lock Road August 15. Share in your local groups.

Would you agree that roadside vegetation is buzzing with pollinator activity at this time of year? That's why boom spraying roadsides right now in Mississippi Mills is a bad idea. Look at it this way. When you cut the grass, the butterflies and bees and frogs etc. have warning and a chance to move out of the way. But on the roadside, the spray truck will just rain herbicides on top of the creatures busy collecting nectar there.

Roadside spraying in Mississippi Mills begins tomorrow August 17. We have no idea why the herbicide application is so late this year, as most of the flowering plants that haven't been mowed are dropping seeds right now. Flowering plants die after they flower. Clearview herbicide is supposed to be applied before flowering. From Dow Chemical: Weeds "Apply to actively growing weeds, after emergence, prior to flowering."
