Hello to all the Wilberforce Fair supporters. Hope everyone is well and keeping safe. We have missed you this year. Last weekend would have been our annual fair. We would love to see some pic from either would be entries or last year’s favorites.

It is with great disappointment that we must announce the cancellation of the Wilberforce Agricultural Fair for 2020. The decision was not an easy one for our directors, however after board discussion and all avenues considered, we unanimously felt it was the right thing to do. The health and safety of our members, volunteers, sponsors, donors, vendors and our community is paramount. In consideration of our community; we anticipate social distancing may be a long term social ...measure with various phases where large gatherings will continue to be discouraged to some degree. Even if some constraints are lifted, it may take some time for people to trust attending events. We have a large seasonal population who may not be here in the same numbers this summer season. Also, our local residents may still be in self isolation, particularly our senior population as they remain our most vulnerable. The local and surrounding area businesses who have traditionally been our Fair sponsors are experiencing significant financial duress during this time. We felt it inappropriate to approach them for advertising or contributions in kind. Another large consideration was the Fairground availability, as our Fair takes place on Municipal property. Should social distancing still be in effect throughout the summer and fall, there is no guarantee that the grounds would be available for WAS to hold the event. As you are aware, our Fair is a not for profit community event, and the financial impacts were a huge part of our discussion. Our budget currently stands in a healthy position to freeze expenses without any reductions for planning 2021. We felt this was the best course of action given the fact that without the funds from our sponsors, what will surely be an anticipated lower attendance, along with general expenses for our exhibits, we would put the Fair’s future financial viability at risk. The WAS Board of Directors wish to extend our blessings to everyone for their continued good health. We love the Fair and have devoted many hours each year to maintain its success. We very much appreciate the support we have received from the membership, volunteers, sponsors, donors, vendors and community over the last 36 years. We look forward to seeing you again at our 2021 Fair on August 6th and 7th. Stay safe, and know that we remain optimistic for another big little Fair in our future.

The fair is over for another year and I wanted to thank everyone. We are a small group and we could not do this without help. I would love to list everyone, however that would be a long list. Hey Kids! Have you ever wanted to be a Prince or Princess? Well here is your chance. The Wilberforce Agricultural Society Fair needs your help. We need a Prince and a Princes to help cut the ribbon at our fair this August. All you need to do is tell us what you like about the fair or what you like about any fair. Winning entries will be drawn by the directors of the fair board at their July meeting and they will call your mom and dad or guardian to ensure that you can come. ... The Prince and Princess will ride in the parade Saturday morning August 11, 2018 at 10:00a.m. and will be seated next to The Mayor of Highlands East. The Prince and Princess will then, with the help of The Mayor and Milky the Cow, cut the ribbon and declare the fair to be officially open. Your Mom and Dad or guardian will gain free entry into the fair and you each will receive a special Prince and Princess fair hat. So, if you are between the ages of 7 and 10 years old, in a few words, tell us what you like about the fair. Our parade was marred only by the weather but not by a lack of enthusiasm. The kids all had a great time and we had our usual great support from Irvin Holland, Wyatt Barnes, Frank Goodman, Mike Alden, Larry of course, and Tammy Donaldson with her crew, It was also nice to see the Reeve support us with his presence along with Joan. #myhighlandseast #SouthAlgonquinTrails

Thank you to everyone who came out and helped put up tents this evening. A special thanks to Stan and Mike as there were few strong guys to swing the sledge hammers and you guys did a great job.

In just two weeks we'll be setting up for the Fair! Lots of last minute work going on. Huge thanks to our graphic designer, Larry Durand for all his work on our fair book, posters and flyers. What a great team we have.

Our fundraising raffle this year consists of a tandem load of firewood logs donated by J.M. Longyear (Wow - thank you J.M. Longyear), and a fish wood carving by Wayne Quibell. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased from Fair Board members.
