Stop blaming the plantar fascia! Rubbing the ball under the foot is not solving the problem?? As we know plantar fascia provides support for the arch of our foot. Often time the heel is everted instead of inverted and the arch is dropped stressing the plantar fascia. One of the muscle that is usually tight is the calf muscle, compensating for weak glute muscles or hamstrings. Traditional calf stretch with a bit of modification is showed in the picture down below. As you feel ...the stretch on your calf muscle, the other leg (the front one) needs to move one step inward where is X sign is. This stretch can cause the heel on the affected side to kick inward and get the pressure off the plantar fascia. With proper assessment, your therapist might find out that your glute med (not only) is weak and the activation exercise is recommended: one way is clamshell or Isometric Single-leg Wall Lean. My client is a dentist and holds her arm in a flexed position for a long period of time while holding dental instruments. She has a history of broken Olecranon when she was a kid. She fell down with her arm straight out and landed on her elbow. Now her elbow and hand get tired (weak) very fast in a flexed position and she feels tingling and numbness in the forearm and the fourth and fifth fingers. That would mean she suffers from ulnar nerve entrapment. She also tested positi...ve for ulnar nerve entrapment (ULTT4). The ulnar nerve is what creates the shock-like sensation when you hit the funny bone in your elbow. The ulnar nerve extends from the neck down the back of the arm to the hand. In the inner aspect of the elbow, it runs along a small passageway called the cubital tunnel. Cubital tunnel syndrome occurs at the elbow and is also known as ulnar neuropathy. Fascia work was done where she has an accumulation of scar tissue (old injury), following passive range of motion. Then finished her treatment with gentle flossing of the ulnar nerve. Elbow pain much better, and yes, ulnar nerve flossing is her homework. #massagetherapy #ulnarnerve #massagetherapist https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klcH9XOPFCY

In functional leg discrepancy cases, using custom orthotics are like bandaid over the problem. Massage therapy techniques and self care can help to achieve stability, balance and postural control.
