From all of us at Heartland Forest, have a safe and Happy Valentine's Day <3 Fun Fact: It was traditionally thought that birds would chose their mate for the coming year on 14th February.
The osprey is a large raptor ranging from 20-24 inches long with a wingspan of 5 to 5 feet. They can be found on every continent except Antarctica. Throughout their breeding and winter ranges osprey thrive wherever there are shallow bodies of water with abundant fish. With our close proximity to Thompson’s Creek and the Welland River we are excited for spring with the hope that a pair of osprey will build a nest on our new Nesting Platform located in our south grassland area. Thanks again to Tim Shafley for donating and building the platform and to Niagara Peninsula Energy Inc. for their continued community support.
Tim Shafley had a vision and thanks to the support of Niagara Peninsula Energy Inc. it became a reality. Heartland Forest now has an Osprey Nesting Platform on site. This is definitely something to be excited about for spring 2021! Special thanks to Tim and Wendy Lindberg for the photos.

How sweet is Eli? This sweet 5 year old boy dropped this letter in the mail with his very own donation of $5.30 to Heartland Forest! Eli, we are so very grateful for your thoughtfulness and generosity and we promise to use it to continue helping the wetland and the animals! Thank you so much!
In 2018 James and his team at Endura Construction volunteered their time, expertise and equipment to bring power to our park side washrooms. This was accomplished by tunneling from the road to the washrooms, removing the need for overhead wires. An incredible gift. In 2020 they returned to install six parking lot lights amazing! Each light provides 100 feet of coverage so we can spread them out across our parking areas to ensure we have sufficient lighting for evening activities and future events. This was an urgent need and we are very grateful for the generosity of James and his team.
Today we have a very special thank you to announce...Janet Krowchuk and her daughter Anastasia did their own fundraiser for Little Black Dress this year and raised $1,745 for Heartland! We are so touched by this gesture and would also like to mention and thank everyone else who contributed!
With the rise in cases around the region and the weather changes approaching, we wanted to update you all on some of our operational changes. For the time being, our trails will remain OPEN daily for public use, with no access to washrooms, the Nature Centre or the area surrounding it. Our playground will also remain open, but will be considered 'USE AT OWN RISK'. We also ask that everyone remain diligent with following Public Health recommendations, including (but not limite...d to): - maintaining social distancing of a minimum of 6 ft. - only having people from YOUR OWN HOUSEHOLD join you on your visit with us - please stay home if you are experiencing ANY symptoms Keep safe everyone!
We are very proud to recognize our very own Steven G Ingram for all that you do for us!
A beautiful site, we’re happy tonight, walking in a winter wonderland... : @mommamiamia

Today is #GivingTuesday, a global movement for giving and volunteering, taking place each year after Black Friday. The Opening day of the giving season, it’s a time when charities, companies and individuals join together and rally for favourite causes. In the same way that retailers take part in Black Friday, the giving community comes together for GivingTuesday. This year, more than ever, all of our local #Niagara charities and non-profits can really use your support. If y...ou are unable to give this year, just simply sharing this post can be just as helpful Giving Tuesday Campaign #givingtuesday2020 #nonprofit #localcharities #communitycomingtogether #niagarafalls
Our bones are constantly renewed through a natural process in which new bone cells replace old bone cells. As we age, however, this process becomes less efficient and we begin to gradually lose bone tissue. According to the 2009 Canadian Health Survey, the Public Health Agency of Canada estimated that approximately 1.5 million Canadians aged 40 years and over (10%) have osteoporosis. Of these people, women were four times more likely to report having osteoporosis than men. Wo...men are more at risk of developing osteoporosis than men because they start with lower bone density and they lose bone mass more quickly as they age. Do you know the risks of Osteoporosis? Join the Coronation Centre of Niagara Falls on Monday, November 30 at 2:00pm. Topics discussed will be: What osteoporosis is Are you are at risk How osteoporosis is diagnosed What you can do to maintain healthy bones The role of exercise, nutrition and lifestyle choices How osteoporosis is treated How to live well with osteoporosis Here is the link for pre-registration: https://niagarafalls.zoom.us//tJAucuisqT4pGd2mB6-G1CIf8K_I
