February is the month for love and with popular holidays like Valentine's Day and Family Day quickly approaching, it is important to check-in with those who you love. With the darker and colder days compounded with the pandemic, it can be very difficult to cope with everyday activities. Spend quality time with family members and connect with friends to spread love and support during this cold and unprecedented season. Another area that you should pay extra attention to during... this season is your oral health. Wearing masks for a long period of time can actually cause unwanted oral side effects that can affect your oral health if not treated, also known as "Mask Mouth". In this month's article, we discuss how wearing a mask can impact your oral health and provide tips on how to prevent unwanted side effects. "Mask mouth" involves a variety of oral side effects that can lead to a series of dental conditions if not monitored and treated. Such side effects include dry mouth, bad breath, tooth decay and potentially gum disease. Although wearing a mask for an extended period of time can create oral side effects, it continues to play a significant role in reducing the spread of the coronavirus. If you continue to take care of your teeth and gums by brushing your teeth regularly, flossing, and drinking more water, you can prevent the occurrence of mask mouth! In the future, when we no longer have to wear masks everywhere we go, these extra practices will only help your oral hygiene even more! We look forward to continuing to take care of your smile and providing quality and educational services so you can maintain your oral health better. Stay safe. The Team at Hillcrest Dental Centre

The staff at Hillcrest Dental wants everyone to know why it is so important to wear your face mask. Our main priority is to protect our patients, staff and community. When someone coughs, sneezes, talks, they could release germs into the air that may infect others nearby. Wearing your face mask will help prevent the spread of infection and prevent any nearby individual from contracting any airborne infectious virus, like Covid-19 or any other disease. ... We wear our face masks to protect you and your loved ones, you wear yours to protect ours! Together let’s do our part and stop the spread of the virus. Stay Safe and Stay Healthy! June 2020: Preparing to serve you safely! We have missed you and we're so glad to welcome you back into our office! We have made temporary modifications to the current office and we are now open for all dental services, giving priority to dental emergencies and treatment in progress. However, at this time our Hygienists have not resumed offering services but we expect to start scheduling appointments in a limited capacity starting on Monday, June 22nd. As we look forward to ...the upcoming summer months we are preparing to open our doors to our new office in July. The new office is still in Hillcrest Mall but will be located at Entrance #4 (the old Canadian Blood Services location). The safety of our patients, our staff, and our community is our top priority and we are taking extra precautions and safety measures to make sure we are preventing the spread of coronavirus and other infections. We will let you know what to expect from the moment you enter our doors. In the meantime, we hope you are enjoying some time in the sun while practicing physical distancing! If you have any questions or are experiencing any current discomfort, emergencies, or seeking dental assistance, please contact us by phone or our website to get priority treatment. Develop the habit of constantly drinking water throughout the day. Here is why: - Fluoride found in water can help strengthen the teeth - Keeps the mouth clean and dilutes the acid already present in the mouth... - Keeps the mouth from being dry dry mouth can encourage teeth decay - Fights against bad breath #DentalTip #ChildrensDentistry #OralHealth #TorontoChildrensDentist #PediatricDentistToronto #Water #HealthyTeeth

If you’re looking for teeth-friendly food, try cheese! Cheese causes your salivary gland to produce more saliva, which in turn neutralizes acids and protects tooth enamel and reduces the risk of cavities. The calcium found in cheese is also great for strengthening your teeth and bones. #DentalTip #OralHealth #Teeth #Health #DentalFact #Cheese #Facts #TeethFriendlyFood

Today is Earth Day! How green is your dental hygiene routine? Every little action that can help save the world counts, even if it means taking care of your teeth in a greener way. Daily brushing with fluoride toothpaste and flossing are essential to a healthy smile, but did you know nutrition has an effect on your dental health too? Tooth decay happens when plaque comes into contact with sugar in the mouth, causing acid to attack the teeth Eating a variety of nutrient-rich foods from all the food groups promotes healthy teeth and gums. A balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, protein foods, calcium-rich foods and whole grains provides essential nutrients... for optimum oral health as well as overall health. Foods for Optimum Oral Health; * Calcium-rich foods, such as low-fat or fat-free milk, yogurt and cheese, fortified soy drinks and tofu, canned salmon, almonds and dark green leafy vegetables help promote strong teeth and bones. * Phosphorus, found in eggs, fish, lean meat, dairy, nuts and beans is good for strong teeth. * Vitamin C promotes gum health, so eat plenty of citrus fruits, tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, potatoes and spinach. * Drink plenty of water For healthy living and for healthy teeth and gums, think before you eat and drink. It’s not only what you eat but when you eat that can affect your dental health. Eat a balanced diet and limit between-meal snacks. If you are on a special diet, keep your physician's advice in mind when choosing foods. Always remember to brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, floss daily and visit your dentist regularly. We will be back taking care of your Oral Health soon and cannot wait to see all of your beautiful smiles! In the meantime Stay Safe and Stay Healthy! #eathealthy #teeth #smile #hillcrestmall #richmondhill
