February is the month for love and with popular holidays like Valentine's Day and Family Day quickly approaching, it is important to check-in with those who you love. With the darker and colder days compounded with the pandemic, it can be very difficult to cope with everyday activities. Spend quality time with family members and connect with friends to spread love and support during this cold and unprecedented season. Another area that you should pay extra attention to during... this season is your oral health. Wearing masks for a long period of time can actually cause unwanted oral side effects that can affect your oral health if not treated, also known as "Mask Mouth". In this month's article, we discuss how wearing a mask can impact your oral health and provide tips on how to prevent unwanted side effects. "Mask mouth" involves a variety of oral side effects that can lead to a series of dental conditions if not monitored and treated. Such side effects include dry mouth, bad breath, tooth decay and potentially gum disease. Although wearing a mask for an extended period of time can create oral side effects, it continues to play a significant role in reducing the spread of the coronavirus. If you continue to take care of your teeth and gums by brushing your teeth regularly, flossing, and drinking more water, you can prevent the occurrence of mask mouth! In the future, when we no longer have to wear masks everywhere we go, these extra practices will only help your oral hygiene even more! We look forward to continuing to take care of your smile and providing quality and educational services so you can maintain your oral health better. Stay safe. The Team at Hillcrest Dental Centre

If you’re looking for teeth-friendly food, try cheese! Cheese causes your salivary gland to produce more saliva, which in turn neutralizes acids and protects tooth enamel and reduces the risk of cavities. The calcium found in cheese is also great for strengthening your teeth and bones. #DentalTip #OralHealth #Teeth #Health #DentalFact #Cheese #Facts #TeethFriendlyFood
Today is Earth Day! How green is your dental hygiene routine? Every little action that can help save the world counts, even if it means taking care of your teeth in a greener way. Try turning off the water while brushing, use floss that is biodegradable, and consider switching to recyclable toothbrushes!... #EarthDay #OralHealth #DentalTip #DentalFacts #SaveTheWorld
Daily brushing with fluoride toothpaste and flossing are essential to a healthy smile, but did you know nutrition has an effect on your dental health too? Tooth decay happens when plaque comes into contact with sugar in the mouth, causing acid to attack the teeth Eating a variety of nutrient-rich foods from all the food groups promotes healthy teeth and gums. A balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, protein foods, calcium-rich foods and whole grains provides essential nutrients... for optimum oral health as well as overall health. Foods for Optimum Oral Health; * Calcium-rich foods, such as low-fat or fat-free milk, yogurt and cheese, fortified soy drinks and tofu, canned salmon, almonds and dark green leafy vegetables help promote strong teeth and bones. * Phosphorus, found in eggs, fish, lean meat, dairy, nuts and beans is good for strong teeth. * Vitamin C promotes gum health, so eat plenty of citrus fruits, tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, potatoes and spinach. * Drink plenty of water For healthy living and for healthy teeth and gums, think before you eat and drink. It’s not only what you eat but when you eat that can affect your dental health. Eat a balanced diet and limit between-meal snacks. If you are on a special diet, keep your physician's advice in mind when choosing foods. Always remember to brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, floss daily and visit your dentist regularly. We will be back taking care of your Oral Health soon and cannot wait to see all of your beautiful smiles! In the meantime Stay Safe and Stay Healthy! #eathealthy #teeth #smile #hillcrestmall #richmondhill
