Bill VanHoek and his team at Hillside Lake Park (HLP) started out this year with an ambitious plan to raise funds to support Homes For Heroes and our mission ...to assist homeless veterans through a Show and Shine event. With the arrival of COVID-19, all their planned functions were cancelled, forcing them to think outside the box to find a way to generate support. First off they found a retired veteran who sewed and embroidered face masks with Helping Heroes HLP. They also asked their campers for donations, from which they made 3 prize bundles. Then they raffled off these prizes and sold just over $2900 in tickets. After expenses they raised a total of $3,200 for Homes for Heroes. COVID-19 has hurt charities right across our country but this team is an inspiration to us all. We, and our veterans-in-need, can’t thank them enough!
