We are so lucky to have so many generous donors supporting us, like Anna Martin from Florence. She took it upon herself to conduct a 50/50 draw in support of Hospice Cape Breton. The lucky winner received $500, and we are $500 closer to reaching our goal as we furnish and finish our 10bed Hospice. Anna also challenges othersincluding her familyto give as well. Thank you Anna! Your mask not only helps prevent the spread of COVID-19, but it can also help a very worthy cause. Hospice Cape Breton is selling these masks for just $10, and all proceeds go to the construction of the 10-bed Hospice, which will provide a home-like environment for those needing end-of-life care. Sooo...the Port Morien Polar Dip will look quite different this year, but we promise it will be just as fun! For 2021, we are organizing a virtual ‘Polar Splash...’ to raise money for the Port Morien Legion and Hospice Cape Breton. The Legion has been closed since the pandemic struck and Hospice CB is in the midst of raising $1M to complete the required funding for their new building, which is currently under construction. Since we can’t host a large event, we are going to do a virtual polar ‘splash’. Participants can be creative, have fun and splash within your bubble. Hop in your kids’ pool, keep tradition and head to the beach or soak yourself with the hose. The options are endless (and could also be hilarious!) What remains the same: We are still raising money for the Port Morien Legion and Hospice Cape Breton. There will still be pledge sheets and tax receipts available. Money can be submitted electronically or with socially distanced pickup. Individual and team participation: you can raise money by yourself OR be a part of a team. The team that raises the most will win bragging rights and their name on our trophy. There will be small prizes for individual participants as well. What’s different: The Splash! Since we can’t have a gathering on the beach or at the legion, participants can get creative! We will be posting your videos and monies raised once your pledges have been collected. It will be virtual and housed on our social media channels. You also have about two weeks to plan and execute your ‘Splash’ - from December 15th to January 1st. We’ll have fun extra prizes like most original and funniest splash. The benefits of this event is that it won’t be limited to local participation or a certain date - this means people far and wide can take part! The event can be broken down into simple steps for participants: 1. Register via [email protected] or via our FB Page. 2. We will send you a pledge sheet, where you can indicate individual or team participation. Make sure you include names and full mailing addresses of those who wish to receive a tax receipt. 3. Collect money and plan your splash! 4. Turn in your pledge money ahead of your splash and then decide how you’d like people to view it - go live and tag us or submit a video to us and we will post it and your total raised! 5.
