When looking up at the bright night sky, you will notice that the stars will appear brighter when you look out of the corner of your eyes! This is because of the rod cells in your eyes. These cells are not color-sensitive, but more sensitive to low light levels. By looking to one side to see the star or aurora borealis, it will appear much brighter. #stargazing
Children's eyes are very sensitive to UV rays. It is very important to protect them. Be sure they are equipped with high quality sunglasses that fit, and block out both UVA and UVB rays. We have an amazing selection of children's sunnies, so come on in and speak with one of our opticians!
Etnia Barcelona, neutral tones with stunning detail and beautiful craftsmanship.
Your eyes, like the rest of your body, benefit when you eat well. There are some foods that are particularly good for your eyes and offer nutrients and vitamins that your eyes need to stay healthy. If your diet includes orange peppers, kale, spinach, berries, and kiwis, you're on the right track! #TipTuesday
Saturday is National Sunglasses Day! Receive 30% off all in stock sunglasses for the rest of this week. *please call or text for an appointment as we continue to follow social distancing guidelines.
It is Learning Disability Week. Vision and learning go hand in hand. Vision affects every aspect of a child’s learning, including reading, writing, participating in classroom activities and sports, and maintaining attention and concentration. In fact, 88% of Canadian adults with a visual impairment identify their educational experiences were directly impacted by their sight, which has in turn impacted educational attainment, career choices and employment.... If a child cannot see properly, this may result in irreversible loss of vision in one or both eyes and put their learning potential at risk. Early identification and treatment of vision problems are critical for eye health in children. A comprehensive eye exam is the only way to achieve early diagnosis and prevent years of needless suffering among children who need their vision to learn. Contact our office today to schedule your child’s next eye exam.
Don't give the answer away. Just say "found it" once you see it...but don't say where he/she is :)
It's National #AccessAbility Week! NAAW is an opportunity to: celebrate the valuable contributions of Canadians with disabilities, to recognize the efforts of individuals, communities and workplaces that are actively working to remove barriers to #accessibility and #inclusion

**** BIG NEWS!!! As of Monday, May 4th, 2020, the Alberta Government has issued a directive to allow optometry clinics to offer routine eye exams in addition to urgent, critical, and emergency care services. As you know, these rulings can change at any minute, so we must all do our part. In order to keep everyone safe, we have safety protocols in place that are to be followed by all patients and staff. In booking an appointment, the clinic staff will ask important screeni...ng questions and will advise you of the safety requirements and procedures in the clinic. As always, all patient related equipment is sanitized between patients and safety shields have been placed on examination equipment that requires close contact. You can help by following below: o Of course, only come to our office if you are in good health and have not travelled. o Call our office prior to coming to the front door, as it will be locked to maintain that adequate social distancing and cleaning measures are met. o If you have a scheduled appointment, call us when you arrive outside. o Attend your scheduled appointment alone or only with those individuals who are required to assist you with your appointment. o You will be required to sanitize your hands as you enter the clinic. o Please wear a face mask, if you have one. o Maintain physical distancing of 2 meters (6 feet). o Ask for assistance with trying on eyeglass frames, as these are sanitized after each use. o As we provide our usual high standard of care to all patients, as always, please be respectful of all doctors and staff during these stressful times. Thank you for your assistance in helping to keep our families, your family, and the community healthy! We are booking patients for this week. So if you want to schedule an exam, send us a Facebook or Instagram message or text us at 780-723-2700. We look forward to seeing you all again soon! -Dr. Hawkshaw, Dr. Kitz, Nicole, and Sabrina
We love eyes! Check out these animals’ eyes.
Contact lens wear is still safe amid COVID19. Just be sure to practice good lens hygiene and replace your lenses as recommended! We are still taking orders for contacts if you need more! http://globalnews.ca/ne/6816435/coronavirus-contact-lenses/
It may surprise you to learn that coronavirus remains on plastic surfaces for as long as 3 days. If not careful, we can easily touch our eyeglasses and then touch our eyes, nose, or mouth, and potentially get infected. To prevent such an occurrence, make sure to routinely wash your glasses and hands with antibacterial soap and warm water!
We are still taking orders for contact lenses! *As always, wash your hands really well any time you are putting contact lenses in or taking them out.* Contact lenses are shipped directly to your home with no shipping costs. Text or message us to make an order. ... 780-723-2700. See more
Happy Easter to all! Please stay safe out there!
Do you feel overly tired at the end of the day, often get headaches, or feel like you’ve been straining your eyes? In our new normal, we are spending more time on our digital devices, which may be causing our eyes to strain more and causing us to squint. If you feel this happening, make sure to contact us to add you to our appointment list for when we open our office again.
When we first closed our doors, we hoped to be open by April 1st. Due to COVID-19, optometry offices in Alberta have been mandated to close for routine eye care for the foreseeable future. We will reopen to the general population as instructed by our government. We want to keep you out of the emergency room, so if you are experiencing an eye emergency, please contact Dr. Hawkshaw by texting our office or messaging us online. ... (Contact lens orders can still be made, with direct shipping to you!) Stay healthy! We look forward to helping you soon!
