September 30th, Orange Shirt Day, stands in solidarity with all of the residential school survivors and with the children that never came home from residential school. The impact of the Residential Schools System is recognized as cultural genocide towards the Indigenous People's within Canada. Moreover 150,000 Inuit, Metis and First Nations children were forcibly removed from their home and communities to attend these Residential Schools. ... Over 6,000 Indigenous children died while attending these Residential Schools. Today, and everyday, we honor, love and respect our survivors and those who lost their lives and those who lost their loved ones. The Indigenous Students Union at the University of Saskatchewan wears Orange in solidarity and to remember.
