Do you have a 2021 personal mission statement? Your personal mission statement describes who you are, your purpose, why it is important to you, and and how you will achieve it. Your personal mission statement will help you prioritize what is important and provide you with focus.

When working on your professional and personal goals for 2021, first start with the end in mind. By that I mean aim BIG for where you see yourself professionally and personally, and then simply work backwards indicating all the activities you will need to perform to get to your end goal. Go for it! #jennyreillyconsulting

We often to get to 'no' too fast. When a potential solution is bought forward, simply ask how to determine if it is really viable. #JennyReillyConsulting

The start of Q4 is tomorrow, October 1st 2020! 2020 has been quite a year, one that we will not forget for decades to come. It is time to evaluate how far we have come from our initial goals set at the beginning of the year, if we are on track, or if we have had to pivot completely and set new goals due to the effects of the global pandemic on both of our professional and personal lives. For the remaining months of 2020, set four goals for the quarter, whether they be profe...ssional, personal, tactical or development goals. Write your goals down and hold yourself accountable. By taking the next best step to move each goal forward, and being relentless consistent in this action, you will attain your goals by the end of the year end. #jennyreillyconsulting

COVID has given us the opportunity to not only demonstrate that in the majority of situations remote or virtual work practices can be productive and beneficial for the organization. In addition, the flexibility of work schedules (hours that are worked) has shown that employees have found this option very helpful. Four great questions to consider when rethinking work schedule options: 1. How does my organization's scheduling practices affect employee effectiveness and well-be...ing? 2. Can we better align our work schedules with the needs, desires and personalities of our employees? 3. What are the implications of creating customized schedules or giving employees more control over their schedule? 4. Can we effectively balance the needs and desires of both the organization and employees? #HBR #teccanada #workschedules http://ow.ly/MThZ50AwYBd

Much of my work pre-COVID was in person, however like many of you I have moved to 100% online. Being on zoom for continuous back-to-back meetings can definitely be draining. Have you found yourself realizing that, yes, your face really looks like that on video, or worse being frozen mid-sentence - now that is an attractive look. You may have also had an entertaining family disruption while on a zoom call. I have had a few including when my 16-year old daughter broke our sin...ging loudly (and of course beautifully) in an accompanying room as she was on a school choir call, the thundering volume of the Rocky theme song playing as my son prepared to sit a virtual university exam, or our Bernadoodle deciding she wanted to play and biting my ankles under my desk while I was giving a pitch to executives you are getting the picture. 1: Don’t take yourself so seriously and laugh when it is funny we are all human, after all. 2: Consider if it is even essential to have a zoom call? Scrutinize your calendar and determine if all the meetings you have scheduled for the next week are necessary. Review what can be switched to a call. Happy Zooming this week! All the best, Jenny https://ideas.ted.com/zoom-fatigue-is-real-heres-why-video/

Well before COVID raised its ugly head, traditional retailers had coped with big box stores, then the rise of Amazon, and finally the surge of retail innovation ignited by the pandemic. Ruthless consistency is your leadership focus objective this week. 1. Look at your week and evaluate what you have on your schedule. Prioritize using the 80/20 rule listing action required from the most important to least significant. Your objective is to have a comprehensive list and then highlight the top 20% of activities that will produce your highest return on time. Don't lose focus on 'busy projects,' relentless zoom meetings, email, or only working on the 'urgent' fir...es of the day. 2. Your top 20% of activities are your most important. These are the items that you will focus on this week. Delegate, defer, or delete other items. Be vigilant, so you focus only on the top 20% of issues requiring action. 3. Timblock into your schedule sufficient time that is uninterruptable to work on the top 20% of critical strategic initiatives that will bring you the greatest return this week. Let me know at the end of the week if your focus, productivity, and results improved over last week. Make it a good one!

Appreciation is one of the most potent yet underutilized leadership tools. Employees over the last three months have demonstrated resilience and hard work; how often do you tell your employees that you have been 'wowed'? Showing appreciation is not flattery. Communicating appreciation is much more than complimenting, it is giving specific and positive feedback that has made an impact. Who are you appreciative of today? #jennyreillyconsulting #leadershiptip
