of all days and times for "socks" to be deemed non essential.. the last bit of socks we have left are at a premium as there is lotsa wet feet and very uncomfortable people; one of the many things we have been dealing with as we attempt to continue providing services during this lockdown and stay at home orders.
on this Earth day 2021, ppl have been helping to pick up garbage and receiving a subway or McDonalds gift card, thank you.. we all have to do our part in a safe way.. we also have been working hard to comply with mask and face covering requirement indoors and where physical distancing isn't possible and then to ensure we have an adequate supply.. thanks to Kenora GM for donating masks and helpful water Bottles.. thanks to Brooke Morrell-Bulmer and other associates for stopping by and for helping keep the community safer.. much appreciated #Earthday2021
many of the patrons we serve are in their late teens and under the age of 25, many of which face various vulnerabilities; thankful for the sharing of resources as so much support is needed esp at this time!..thanks to the staff at the Youth Wellness Hub for sharing the YWH "swag" and gifting us so we can distribute these backpacks with many useful items and goodies; for some of the young people, these backpacks are their main posession due to high incidences of theft and loss; nice to see beautiful smiles as they received the gifts; thanks again to the YWH staff
many times we have been humbled by th giving of families and our thoughts are with th Bush family as they provided an"act of kindness" Easter lunch..shout out to Shannon Bailey for donation and Bradley King for his delicious soups..our thoughts are with those in mourning ..it sure is tough facing this lockdown once again and we hope and pray for everyone's safety and supports..stay safe
some pics from today
Day "what" in the day of the life of the Fellowship.. it sure is a struggle to continue during this extended lockdown especially on days that are cold and snowy; it adds to the already sense of despair felt by many; however, we are thankful we can open the doors for those who can find a warm space, hot cup of coffee, bathroom, dry socks, " a tissue", and today a hot bowl of soup provided by the Knox Church crew,, thank you so much.. the stay at home order affects so many even those without a " home" to stay in. This certainly is a time like no other. Prayers for all those experiencing such a difficult time
Miigwetch and congratulations to Ryver Red Cloud who completed her field placement with us from the Seven Generations Community and Justice services program. its always very helpful having an extra set of hands and new ideas around. We appreciate her comment that at times it has been overwhelming and that is a correct assessment especially as we continue through the pandemic and witness the impact on the ppl. We benefitted from her skills and thinking of new ways to engage with the population we serve. We hope all the best for her as she moves on to her next learning journey.
"No act of kindness is ever wasted"..the weather sure makes for a busy time as we work to keep ppl warm.. the blustery cold weather did not stop ppl from donating delicious food as Knox church brought hearty soup and Pam from Cornerstone brought yummy cupcakes..we passed along special gifts in memory of #sambush to patrons with heartfelt messages of support and encouragement and life promotion as hope sometimes is not abundant.. #yougotthis, #strength
The Fellowship Centre serves many purposes to the people we work with, we are thankful that our doors have been able to open daily throughout the pandemic and to help meet some of the needs; a place of Fellowship - its nice to have people sit and enjoy a cup of coffee and visit with friends, share a laugh, support each other through hard times, lend a hand; we all know how difficult the pandemic has made positive interaction so challenging. we sure have needed each other as we have faced much loss recently; grief is so heavy, please be gentle with each other, thankful for our elders, firekeepers, those who offer prayers and to all of the volunteers who provide food on a weekly basis, your support means so much at this time of struggle,.. thank you.. please stay safe everyone, we are all in this together
the Fellowship centre is open to people of all ages; there are many young people looking for odd jobs and offering to help with cleaning yards, so if you know anyone who needs a hand.. there is help.. many do not receive assistance so it would help them hv some money to their name..many are hard workers and we are very proud of them.. we are thankful for all th help offered in and around the center
congratulations Sgt. Cheryl Gervais on your promotion.. she has been working very hard on many fronts.. she and Treaty 3 police have supported the "Hunger doesn't take a vacation stuff a boat campaign"which helpwd us a lot.and most recently nominated locally for woman of distinction award.. well deserved
beautiful start to the work week; would like to take this time to acknowledge and say thank you to all of the very helpful patrons who have been cleaning up around the centre and in the area. Its another sign of optimism stepping into Spring.. an opportunity to step forward charting new path; we should always hold on to hope for better things to come, small steps, strengthening foundations.. please stay safe everyone
on this first day of Spring, it brings some optimism moving forward, a time to reflect on where we came from, what we came through, and where we are going; however at this time we extend our condolences to family and friends of dear patrons and relatives who have recently passed on; dealing with grief is one of the most difficult events one can face and when you face so many vulnerabilities including homelessness it greatly impacts healthy grieving; we are thankful for those who offered support with outreach, offered food and tobacco; we also give thanks for Grand Council treaty 3 who donated firewood prior and has been very helpful as we do our best to support individuals facing loss and grief.
warmer weather sure has brought relief and a bit of optimism even as we revert to Code red as of Monday; thanks to WNHAC who provided air purifiers which will be very useful in this next phase; sorry for not updating as its been very busy. We appreciate all of th calls offering clothing but at this time we are not accepting clothing donations, we hope to accept in near future..it has been a very difficult and challenging year operating through this pandemic.. we are not out of the woods and continue with restrictions but at same time doing our part to encourage and model healthy coping skills and offering positive activities promoting belonging and self care
to honour women on.. thank you elders Cathy Lindsay and Tommy Keesick and our young visitor Shawana for sharing her songs with us.. it was a beautiful morning.. singing, prayers, gifting #InternationalWomensDay2021
