Today is the National Day of Mourning, a day where we pay our respects to, and remember, the thousands of workers who have been killed, injured or suffered illness as a result of work-related incidents. Earlier this week I attended a National Day of Mourning ceremony with the International Union Of Operating Engineers, Local 793 and today I will join the Oakville and District Labour Council - ODLC to remember those workers who have been killed or injured on the job. I urge ea...ch and every one of you to make workplace health and safety a personal priority and speak to you friends and family members. We must work together to make sure our sons and daughters, our loved ones and the members of our communities know their rights and understand how to protect themselves from hazards at work. Every worker has the right to return home safe and sound at the end of each work day. But that’s not the reality for many Canadian families who have lost a loved one due to a workplace fatality. By working together with employers, workers and our health and safety partners we can prevent worker injuries and deaths before they occur. As Ontario's former Minister of Labour, I remain committed to doing everything I can to make this a reality, and I ask for your commitment, as well. We owe the working people of Canada nothing less. #dayofmourning
