Mortgage rates are always changing and always a topic for discussion. Right now they’ve been low, creating an buying opportunity for many homebuyers. If you’re interested the article blow discusses what policymakers and regulators can do and if they should do anything at all. #mortgage Housing prices have been surging in recent months, driven up by a combination of those record low rates, increased household savings and a desire for more space. And while that may be good for... owners, it makes for a growing challenge for buyers, who are taking on larger debt burdens that could be harder to handle if rates rise again. The situation has led to talk about regulators or policymakers potentially intervening in the housing market, something the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions is now saying it will do. https://financialpost.com//low-rates-leave-policymakers-wi

The average price for a home is up more than 26% this year than it was last year. As we've talked about before, inflation is up and the economy is strong, and the housing market is likely driving that. The Nova Scotia Association of Realtors compiled data that shows 1,577 units were sold across the province last month, a new sales record for the month of March and an increase of more than 65 per cent from March 2020. https://www.cbc.ca//real-estate-boom-evictions-tenants-lan

A little commercial market update from the Bank of Canada. The BoC composite gauge of sentiment grew from 1.3 in Q4 2020 to 2.9 in the first quarter, reaching its highest reading since 2018. Attesting to the robust pace of recovery, this was a far cry from the multi-year-low of -6.9 seen during the first few months of the pandemic. https://www.mortgagebrokernews.ca//bank-of-canada-on-the-c

Lots of development happing here in downtown Halifax, including this luxury hotel, which should be done this fall. #halifax Scott Armour McCrea is president and CEO of The Armour Group, which is developing The Muir. He says it was important for him to make this luxury hotel uniquely Nova Scotian a building that wouldn’t work in any other city. McCrea believes a hotel should be 'born of this place' to make it different from a usual design. https://huddle.today/halifaxs-new-five-star-hotel-will-hav/
