Hi....I haven't posted much in the last while... life gets busy... so I thought I'd share this gorgeous 4ft hard maple charcuterie board. It's from a tree that had sap harvested from it, as you can see the spigot holes.... which I've filled with tinted Ryver epoxy to maintain total functionality of the board all the while keeping the cool look of this piece. When George gave me the "what the hell is this?" look... I decided to upgrade his feeding station. The top is made out of wormy maple and I never get tired of how unique and beautiful each piece turns out when finished. I stained it with Minwax provincial stain and sealed it with verathane bar and table finish. The base is constructed of pine and i used my kreg jig and glue to assemble it. This sorta falls into the woodworking category....i had to cut wood... and screw it together... I built this last weekend. It's a SIP (Subterranean Irrigated Planter). The idea of this design is two fold...1. It keeps the soil wet and 2. Because there's 3.5 inches of water in the bottom of this planter at all times, the roots of the plants will seek it out. This action creates a deep rooted plant. As an fyi... this isn't my design. YouTube is a wonderful platform. Today i handed off these two beauties to their new owners. The first is a 3.5 ft x 13.5 inch wide slab of wormy maple. The other is a gorgeous piece of black walnut roughly 2.5ft long and 14 inches at its widest.
