We're Back! As of May 19th we will slowly be starting to open up appointments again, but things are a little different... Hello Everyone, We are so excited to be able to see you and be part of your healthcare again!... Navigating this virus and reopening paramedical healthcare services is something that will require a calculated process. Our intention as we slowly open back up is to continue to provide much needed care while maintaining safe practices and minimizing the risk of exposure to COVID-19. On reopening of Eaglewind the following procedures will be implemented. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns. Here's what's happening: - You will be asked to fill out a COVID-19 screening form when you book an appointment, and will receive a phone call the day before your appointment so you can discuss with your therapist. - On arrival we ask that you remain in your vehicle or at the outside waiting area until your therapist collects you at your scheduled time. - You'll notice that we are wearing a mask and may also be wearing eye protection when we open the door for you. We also will have disinfected the treatment room and high touch surfaces of the common areas prior to your arrival. - On entrance and in all common areas of the clinic you are required to wear a mask or suitable nose and mouth covering. We will discuss the wearing of a mask at appropriate times during your treatment. - We have disposable masks available for a donation to Helping Hands, but we encourage you to bring your own to reduce waste. - Your therapist will ask that you wash your hands or apply hand sanitizer provided upon entry to the clinic, and that you be mindful of touching surfaces only as needed. For more detailed information about Eaglewind Health's COVID-19 Safety measures and ReStart Plan, or to book an appointment please visit our website! eaglewindhealth.com ReStart dates: Maja Duncan RMT May 19th, Verena May 22nd, Monita Triplett RA.c RHN May 24th, Cat May 25th, Amy Carr-Hilton RMT and Sheena Choy, RMT June 1st. (All dates subject to change depending on, well, all things COVID). Online booking will open up as I am getting ready over the next few days, but if you want to make sure you get in soon, add yourself to the waitlist!

Need to reduce tension in your muscles? Time to book in for a massage! There are still some spots available with me next week! Speaking of feeling tight, have you ever wondered what the difference is between a 'tight' muscle and a 'short' muscle? ‘Short’- is a muscle at rest that is structurally shorter. The muscle fibers overlap more when they are not contracted. This would impact your available range of motion.... ‘Tight’- refers to the resting contracted state of the muscle as dictated by our nervous system. The nervous system wires a muscle to be in a contracted state even when you’re not using it. So, when your therapist uses terms like hypertonicity or says you have increased tone or tightness in your *insert name of muscle* they are referring to the resting contractile state of the muscle. What affects muscle tone? The state of our nervous system directly impacts the tone of our muscles. If we are stressed; ex: holding positions for long periods of time like on your bike trainer or at your desk, guarding due to injury or dealing with psychological stress, our sympathetic nervous system fight or flight mode takes over. When we are stressed, more frequently it causes our postural muscles to hold an increased level of tone. That’s why massage is so wonderful in reducing tension. We are speaking to your nervous system via touch to reduce SNS firing!

Living in the Sea to Sky community the people here are very active. Most people have experienced DOMS (Delayed onset muscle soreness) which is normal when we are physically challenging our bodies. However, have you ever wondered if what you’re experiencing is DOMS or an injury? Here’s a chart that can help you understand what your body may be telling you. As always, if you aren’t sure it’s important to seek professional advice from a therapist who’s trained to deal with injuries and muscle soreness.
