Sept 18-20 we toured through Riding Mountain and west to Gilbert Plains. 11 people rode in 6 club cars. Run over a few miles of dirt road and surprised a couple of locals. The weather was great, and everyone enjoyed the planned itinerary. For a final tour (perhaps) it was a great time. Leaves were just starting to turn colour. Briefly meet up with a Brandon Club in Kelwood.

On August 23rd 2020 at our Annual Corn Roast, we gathered 40 cars to celebrate our 60th Anniversary with an aerial photoshoot. Enjoy this 3 minute video clip. Our thanks to Al Holmberg and Jim Matthewman Jr. for the video and photography, and Dan Sirman for editing and sound.

THIS IS AN IMPORTANT ISSUE THAT OUR CLUB IS PRO-ACTIVELY ADDRESSING DIRECTLY WITH THE GOVERNMENT AND OTHER STAKEHOLDERS TO STOP THIS LEGISLATION CHANGE. PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THIS AND UNDERSTAND THE RAMIFICATIONS OF THIS LEGISLATION ON ALL VEHICLE OWNERS. The Manitoba Government has written a Bill (Bill 17, 2nd session, 42nd legislature) amending the MPIC Act.... The intent of this amendment is to make the claim adjudication process easier and more efficient for MPI by removing the right of a claimant to be represented in a disputed settlement. Currently, in the event of a dispute the claimant has the right to appoint an expert representative to negotiate a settlement with MPI. If they are unable to come to a satisfactory conclusion then the claimant's expert and MPI select an independent umpire to finally resolve the dispute. Bill 17 will change this. The existing process of negotiation would be replaced by a "tribunal" in which one individual adjudicator, appointed by the Government, will be the sole arbiter of disputes. The claimant is to make his case in written form, then the decision of this person is final, with no opportunity for discussion or negotiation nor any recourse to appeal. The adjudicator is said to be independent, but "the corporation may provide administrative and clerical support to the claim dispute tribunal." This casts considerable doubt on the independence of the tribunal. This change in legislation will affect the rights of every MPI claimant and should be a concern to all motorists. However it is of particular concern to owners of collector cars. We all have heard stories of people having difficulty in arriving at a fair settlement from MPI on a total loss without having skilled representation in negotiation. It seems that claims on collector cars are relatively few (witness MPI's extremely favorable loss ratio on the Collector Vehicle Program), and it is understandable that MPI claims staff may not all be expert in evaluating rare automobiles. Consequently the right for claimants to engage an expert in the field to represent their interests is extremely important, particularly as recourse to the courts is denied. Since the Manitoba Government controls automobile insurance under a monopoly, the Government must accept responsibility to ensure the rights of the public are protected and not sacrificed in the interests of expediency. If this matter concerns you, we urge you to contact your MLA to register your objection.

Here are more photos from our first event of 2020.
Our first 60th Anniversary event was held on January 1st 2020. 6 Club cars, our 1918 Ford Model TT Bus and 47 members arrived at the Manitoba Legislature Building for a ribbon cutting ceremony. After the ceremony, the group followed the bus and its passengers to The Forks for our annual Frost-bite luncheon. This bus was originally used to transport people to and from Lockport MB and Winnipeg. The remains of the bus was purchased by MCAAC and restored by members in time to celebrate Manitoba's Centennial in 1970.
February 2020 is our club's 60th anniversary. Every month in 2020 we will have at least 1 event geared towards celebrating this milestone. Come and join the celebration.
