Marie's Valley Inn Restaurant 17.10.2020

I think I'm losing my mind.

Marie's Valley Inn Restaurant 14.10.2020

Many of you are probably wondering if Marie's will be opening on Friday, June 12. First of all, the amount of business that would create does not pay the bills - it would only be about a quarter of normal business with 100% of the costs. Social distancing would make it very cumbersome for staff and customers not to mention the difficulty of keeping everything sanitized. I am also not prepared to put my staff at risk of exposure to the virus just for the sake of making a buck. I, myself, am in that high risk demographic of dying should I contract the virus. If the number of cases comes down in Dufferin then opening would be a possibility but currently, Dufferin has almost three times the number of infections as does Wellington which is a much larger county. I'll keep you posted and I thank everyone for your support.

Doug has a job here when we reopen - looks delicious. I'll have to teach him how to make cherry pie filling from scratch though. lol

I will be adding frozen soups to the freezer out back along with the bread in the very near future. To those who do not wish to pay with cash, you can send an e-transfer to [email protected]

I've had a few calls about bread. I've been making bread here for about fifteen years, ever since I got bored one January day and decided to try my hand at it. I have decided to sell bread on a self-serve basis. Anyone wishing to purchase a loaf or two can simply go to an upright freezer located outside by the back door. Simply pick what you want and leave the money in a container in the freezer. The price is $4.00/loaf. I have four different kinds of bread, each marked by a ...single letter on the bread bag: W - white B - whole wheat M - multigrain R - rye The bread is sliced and frozen to preserve freshness since preservatives and other nasty chemicals are not used. Thanks for your support and stay healthy!

We are completely shut down for an indefinite period due to the lack of sales. Grand Valley is a ghost town.

Hello everyone. It seems quite possible that the government is going to shut down all non-essential businesses in the very near future, including restaurants. In the past, this restaurant has provided food to hydro crews after tornadoes and power outages hit this area. We were deemed essential at that time, the same as hospitals, since these repair crews needed to be fed. Within the last couple of days, we were contacted by some of our regular customers to provide food for th...em since they were in or will be in the mandatory 14-day isolation after traveling abroad. This brought up the fact that people returning home would likely not have a sufficient food supply once they returned home. This would be exacerbated by the shortages we see in grocery stores today, the latest of which is a staple such as potatoes. I just returned from Downey Potato Farms and they have been going full tilt to meet demand. Apparently, this shortage of potatoes is province-wide and likely caused by the hoarding mentality we've seen with different items. Here at Marie's we have access to an adequate supply of food, especially the staples. We are going to see more and more people in isolation over the next few weeks and possibly even months before this is all over. Some will ignore the mandated isolation after exposure to someone who is sick and go about their business as usual. This puts everyone they come in contact with at risk. Premier Ford has said he will make sure people in isolation will receive their food through food banks but, in this rural area, I can't see this as a viable option. There simply are not enough resources to make that work. What we at Marie's are proposing is a food delivery system to those in quarantine at home that we can provide. That is, delivering pre-ordered, prepared meals to those affected without coming in contact with the customer. We could even provide some basic grocery staples that we have in stock such as bread, eggs, meat and frozen vegetables and, yes, even high-quality potatoes by the pound. We would do this at a reasonable price. We do not believe in gouging. Please share this with your friends and leave a comment. We would like to know if you would use this service. And, if you have any ideas, share them too. We're all in this together and best of luck to everyone. Thank you

We offer bread and other baked goods for sale that's made in house without any preservatives. We would prefer that you order BY PHONE at 519-928-2899 or in house for anything you need. We have white, whole wheat, rye and multigrain bread. Remember, it's important to support local businesses during this difficult time.
