Mary, Mother of the Church 03.07.2021

Established as a feast day in 2018 by Pope Francis, we at MMOC pray for a Blessed Feast Day of Mary, Mother of the Church! Celebrated on the Monday after Pentecost, we continue to meditate on Mary's reception of the Holy Spirit with the Apostles and her desire to pray for the Church and intercede on behalf of all those who desire her son, Jesus. Blessed Mother, patroness of our parish, continue to pray for us always! Amen.

May continues to be a month of honouring Mary and today, we celebrate the Memorial of Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church "The title Mother of the Chur...ch reflects the deep conviction of the Christian faithful, who see in Mary not only the mother of the person of Christ, but also of the faithful. She who is recognized as mother of salvation, life and grace, mother of the saved and mother of the living, is rightly proclaimed Mother of the Church." - St. John Paul II See more

On May 17, 2021, Sr. Carol Peloquin, SNJM, passed away peacefully in her sleep. Sr. Carol was 84 years of age. Please join us in praying for t...he repose of Sr. Carol’s soul, and in celebrating her memory. Sr. Carol joined the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary in 1955, took her first vows in 1957 and professed final vows in 1962 in Montreal. During the early years of her religious life she completed her teaching degree, and in subsequent years she completed Masters degrees in Communications, Spirituality and Theology. Sr. Carol taught in parochial schools from 1957 until 1963 and she joined the faculty at SMA in 1969 where she taught until her retirement from teaching in 1994. Sr. Carol taught English and Religion as well as heading the drama program, journalism club and photography club. She deeply admired the arts and travel and often took students on trips, such as to see live theatre on Broadway in New York, to dinner theatre in Minneapolis and on trips overseas. While Sr. Carol loved her teaching career she felt a strong call to be of service to the disadvantaged. She answered that call and left teaching to take on many new endeavours such as; a chaplain in Manitoba penal institutions, a foster mom at Megwech House for Indigenous girls who were victims of abuse, founded the Next Step program for incarcerated individuals who are soon to be released and the newly released, co-founded Quixote House and Massie House which are supportive housing spaces where ex-offenders can safely and comfortably live and learn as they reintegrate into society, and co-founded Future Hope which is an umbrella organization for Next Step, Quixote House and Massie House www.futurehope.ca. This year the Nellie McClung Foundation named Sr. Carol a Manitoba 150 Woman Trailblazer. Sr. Carol’s life was a true testament to the love and power of God at work. May she eternally rest in peace. The site for this daily Mass is simply, The Daily TV Mass. Like several other sites available through technology it offers those who ‘attend’ a few moments of quiet reflection, inspiration and faithful familiarity. Have a gentle today.

Please welcome our new D&P Animator - Jason Cegayle! "Development and Peace, the Social Justice Organization of the Catholic Church in Canada, has a very spec...ial place in my heart and ministry. I volunteered with the organization for several years as Youth Representative and Campus President for The Development and Peace Committee at the Université de Saint-Boniface. I also enjoyed participating in the virtual THINKFasts, attending the Fall and Share Lent workshops, co-animating social justice workshops with the Catholic Schools and co-organising the Solidarity Walk for Migrants and Refugees in June 2019. I graduated with my Bachelor of Education from the Université de Saint-Boniface and am currently the Youth and Young Adult Ministry Leader at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish." https://www.archwinnipeg.ca/news.php#427

Marriage Tip After you are blessed with a child (or children), you may think you don’t have time or money for a regular date night. Do it anyway. Think of it as an investment in your marriage. What better way to start than this Valentine’s weekend!

Lent begins tomorrow. But most of us feel it began last March and never ended. So rather than "giving something up" this year, since many people have given up health, financial security, and seeing friends and family, how about a new Lenten practice?

Paulist Father, Bruce Nieli shares the video of this incredible meeting many years ago. A TV interview with Mother Teresa by my dear friend, my seminary rector, and my Director of Pastoral Counseling at Iona College, Paulist Father James Lloyd. Father Lloyd, soon to celebrate his 100th birthday, is livelier and more active than ever!
