Mississippi Mills All My Relations 04.06.2021

From our friends at Plenty Canada... The COVID-19 pandemic has caused unprecedented challenges worldwide. Many communities are struggling to survive at a time where food systems are severely impacted by lockdown restrictions and disruptions to supply chains. Local governments are overwhelmed, food is scarce, and hygiene products are difficult to access this is the reality for families living in Maya-Q’eqchi in Guatemala, and Quechua in the Cusco region of Peru. In this spec...ial webinar event, we want to introduce you to community leaders doing relief work within their Indigenous communities in Guatemala and Peru. This webinar will introduce the voices of Plenty Canada’s international Indigenous advisors in a discussion with the Maya and Quechua activists who mobilized and launched emergency relief responses to assist their communities in Guatemala and Peru. Although this year has been difficult, we invite you to come join us in a celebration of learning, strength and resilience on Tuesday, December 29th 2020 from 4 pm - 6 pm EST. Register Here: https://www.eventbrite.ca/.../indigenous-survival... P.S. This event is free to attend, however if you are interested in supporting emergency relief initiatives in these communities, please check out our fundraising page here: https://www.plentycanada.com/donate.html

Archeological digs in the National Capital Region find many artifacts dating back 1,500 to 2,500 years, but such artif...acts here and across the country are in danger of being lost to shoreline erosion due to climate change. That loss jeopardizes contemporary Indigenous rights and land claims and diminishes our understanding of Indigenous history. Come learn about the connections between land, history, creation care, and present-day justice for Indigenous peoples. Registration is required for this free event.

{Truth & Reconciliation} Mississippi Mills All My Relations is hosting a second Reconciliation Movie, "The Pass System" on Friday November 15th at St. Paul's (7...0 Clyde, Almonte). The Pass System illuminates Canada’s hidden history of racial segregation. For over 60 years, the Canadian government often denied Indigenous peoples the basic freedom to leave their reserves without a pass. Cree, Saulteaux, Dene, Ojibwe and Blackfoot elders of the prairie land where this took place tell their stories of living under and resisting the system, and link their experiences to today. Acclaimed Cree actor and activist Tantoo Cardinal (Dances with Wolves, Legends of the Fall) narrates this investigative look into a little-known Canada. The evening's facilitator is Mireille LaPointe, past chief of Ardoch Algonquin First Nation, co-chair of the Indigenous Health Council, and a high school teacher in Perth. The movie will be followed by a Talking Circle to share thoughts. Seating is limited so pre-registration is required. Tickets are $15.00 and available here: www.eventbrite.com/e/2nd-reconciliation-movie-night Mississippi Mills All My Relations is a concerned group of community members living in the area who recognize that we all have a responsibility to help restore what was once a relationship of trust and friendship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Peoples in our country. Their mission is to respond to the calls to action outlined by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in a respectful, concrete, doable way.
