Thinking of all our resort families as well as everyone that has lost loved ones in service of their country this Memorial Day. #ResortFamily #SomeGaveAll

Mother Nature gave everything a nice drink last night and today. We had a 1/2" in the rain gauge this morning and expect to have that much or more again before we dump it tomorrow morning. Hopefully the same fell over the regions east and west of Kenora experiencing fires so that crews can get some help containing them. Lovely evening here at the lake, except for having no anglers of course. ... #LakeLife #RainsCame #GreenGrass

As expected, the USA and Canada have agreed to extend the closure of the international border restricting non-essential travel for another 30 days. This extension will be reviewed again leading up to June 21, 2021when it is set to expire. We are hopeful for significant improvements in covid case #s and vaccination numbers across the country over the next month so that there can be a plan for re-opening before the end of the travel season. Canada's 1st dose percentage is ...almost at 50 and climbing steadily so there is reason to be optimistic. Until then, the covid lemonade making machine has been turned back on and we're working to make improvements and do preventative maintenance throughout the resort. Thank you all for your continued support and patience through these unprecedented circumstances. #ResortLife #CovidLemonade #BlessingsCounted

2021 Walleye Opener Report Not much has changed since the 2020 opening weekend. Who would have ever thought it would go this far and long? I saved this photo to post here today. It was taken by Jay Hebert from Kingston, Ontario. Jay was part of a group of 3 guys that travelled over 2000 kms in late September/early October to make a trip they had planned a year in advance. The guys spent a week with us and had a great time. It was one of the 4 Canadian groups we had in... 2020 and the only group that stayed more than 3 nights. Shortly after we got back to the resort in April, Jay sent a message that included this quote, "I took an amazing picture of the water and your dock/dock house...the pic has won a couple of local photography contests and I would like you to have a copy of it." It truly is one of the most incredible photos a guest has ever shared with us. As we look forward to working our way through a 2nd season of covid-interruption, we will remember there is still beauty to see if you stop and look for it. Thank you, Jay. You couldn't possibly begin to know how much inspiration and encouragement your photo has already given me. #LakeLife #WalleyeOpener2021 #CovidLemonade

COVID UPDATE May 4, 2021 So you’re saying there’s a chance? Despite multiple provinces being in lockdown mode and Ontario experiencing another stay-at-home order that includes checkpoints limiting travel at the provincial borders with Manitoba and Quebec, there is a glimmer of hope for the first time in months that a portion of the summer may be available to south of the border visitors. After having my optimism of a partial season in 2020 crushed over and over, I have be...Continue reading

Well, that didn't take long. Just in time for the new stay at home (again) order, we officially have ice out in our bay. I don't ever recall an earlier ice out in the years we have been at the resort since 1992. ... April 7, 2021 is the official date for this year.

From our family to yours, wishing everyone a blessed Easter.

Mylie's Place Resort 29.12.2020

Wishing everyone in our resort family a very Merry Christmas!! May the blessings we have shine brightly today while the Lord provides comfort for everyone that is celebrating without a beloved family member or friend, especially for the first time. One of the things I do miss about being away for the holidays is Ellen's Christmas spirit in the form of home decorations. ... Her present to me this year was having the house all done up before we left at the end of November. These are just a couple of the photos. Thank you, Mom. #ChristmasSpirit #Blessed

COVID LEMONADE UPDATE It might be getting a little tougher to stir the lemonade now that temps are falling below freezing on a regular basis, but that hasn't slowed down the lemonade stand too much. The guys have been working hard over the past week plus to get enclose the bottoms of the cabins that were jacked up and levelled. ... Here is the end result of Cabin 2 after being fitted for a green tin skirt and landscaped with a 4x4 border to hold the crushed rock. We're super happy with how they look with the tin skirting and can't wait for our guests to see them in person in 2021. #CovidLemonade #CantStopNow #GitRdone #NewSkirt #IsItMayYet

COVID LEMONADE UPDATE!! We finally had to shut down the covid lemonade making machine yesterday. It was getting a little too slushy and starting to malfunction. The lemonade mixers worked hard through the mild start to winter and got a lot more done than we ever expected or hoped as possible. With what is scheduled to be an early opener next spring (fingers crossed), this will alleviate a significant amount of time-crunch stress that would have been reality otherwise. ... Here are a few photos of project in Cabin 4A; including new pre-finished wall panels, trim (ceiling, floor, doorway), new cabinets ready for hardware as well as an over the stove microwave and new counter top. Not shown is the installation of a forced-air wall heater in the bathroom to replace the baseboard heater. We found some wall panels that were thicker than a traditional wall panel and are very pleased with the results. Thank you to Mikey and Mark for the hard work well past the end of a typical season. #CovidLemonade #IsItMayYet #CountingBlessings

Mylie's Place Resort 03.12.2020

Our bay started to freeze over yesterday. About 50 yards from shore is pretty solid. The rest is skim ice out to the first red marker. I don't expect it will open back up this year.

Mylie's Place Resort 02.12.2020

Covid Lemonade Update The lemonade making machine is still going! This was the final touch on project that included grass seed and sprinklers. We added a 4x4 border on each side of the "road" that is the pathway in front of the cabins and then finished it off with a couple loads of crusher chips. ... Thanks to Miller Contracting for the crusher chips and spreading them between the borders with hall of fame level skills in the bobcat. It should settle some over the winter and we'll get the compactor on it next spring to pack it even tighter. It was nice to get it done a couple of weeks ago before some more snow came along. #CovidLemonade #MakeItBetter #2021Season

FLASHBACK FRIDAY Here are a couple more from Jan for Old School week. Hope to get a few more to share sometime soon. Jan remembers her Dad not being happy about being asked to keep the northerns because of all the slime he had to wash out of the boat. There were the "biggest fish they had ever caught." Also that Dorothy Vauthey took the northerns and steamed them for Jan's family. ... Thank you again, Jan, for sharing your memories and stories with us. Have a great weekend, everyone!!

Vauthey Home The Vauthey Home circa 1950s. This is the house that Fred and Dorothy Vauthey called home during at least a portion of their time at the resort in the 1950s. Grandpa Mylie and Grandma Evie would move their family into the house after they purchased the resort in 1959. They would live their until the "Big Brown House" was built.... For reference, this house was located where are launch/park area is now. There was a water leak in the parking lot many years ago and I was told that is where the old house sat. At that time, there was still a live water line to the area that had a plug in it to cap it off. Special thank you to Helen for also sharing this photo with us so we could then share it with all of you. If you have any memories of this house, we would love to hear them!! #OldSchool #History #WhatWeAreMadeOf

Historical Photo!! UPDATE -- This photo may have been part of the Vauthey family history prior to their time here on the mainland while they managed a resort out on the lake. We have/had a little log cabin here at the resort as well so that may be why some of the memories are a little mixed up. We are trying to run down a few more details so stay tuned!! Our best information is showing that this photo was taken of a log cabin on Cedar Island with Fred and Dorothy buying t...he mainland property in the early 50s. I received a cool message from the great-grand daughter of Fred and Dorothy Vauthey asking if I had any older photos dating back to the time frame that they owned the resort. The boat with the flowers was a memorial to her great Uncle Billy. Billy drowned while out on the lake in that boat in 1941. Thank you for the cool vintage photo, Helen. If anyone has any older photos of resort life, please email them! We would love to see them and share them with everyone. #Vintage #History #HowWeGotHere

POTENTIALLY POSITIVE NEWS!! A pilot program involving testing on arrival to help facilitate travel at the Calgary airport and 2 Alberta land crossings. Please keep in mind that this is the first program of its kind and can easily be altered, improved and made more efficient as better rapid testing technology becomes available. ... This really is the first glimmer of hope for a return to travel since they shut the border down to recreational crossings in March. All negative and/or political comments will be deleted. It got a little sporty yesterday afternoon before the thunder boomer and rain. It has been hard to focus on positive things at times since 2020 took a detour into uncharted territory. Today, more than any other day, we are counting our blessings and being thankful for what we do have rather than what we don't have or haven't had this year. Happy Thanksgiving to all of our Canadian friends and family.

WALLEYES BITING! J-Man's baby bro came for a long weekend to close up the cabin and had some incredibly good walleye action. Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Oct 2,3,4) had a steady bite with good size as well. These 2 pictures were from Friday. A nice double header for Jeremy and Doug as as well as a beauty for Art. ... It is a shame the LOTW walleye challenge had to be cancelled this year. All teams would have had some awesome fishing. We have cabins open for Canadians looking for some great fall fishing.

FISHING PHOTOS!! We had our 4th cabin reservation (and only full week) of the season last week. Matt, Jay and Liam booked a week last November and came from the Kingston, Ontario area ( to hang out with us September 27 - October 4 to target muskies. A massive cold front with high winds and steep temp drops greeted them so their first 4 days learning the way around Lake of the Woods were predictably difficult.... When the winds let up and allowed for some exploring beyond near-by areas out of big rollers, they got on some fish. A bad oil pressure gauge sensor on the morning of their departure only let the get about 10 miles down the road before they ended up back for another day and night. Before they got on the road home at the end of their extended stay, there were a total 2 personal best northerns and a couple 1st Lake of the Woods muskies. It was great to have the guys visit and we look forward to a return trip in 2021!

Covid Lemonade Update The week of Sept 21 will see a couple of cabins get elevated and fitted with new legs. Here is Cabin 7's result. The guys found a less than ideal construction process as they completed this project so will be adding another full beam and 5 new sets of legs on pads to correct the deficiency once we get a few other things done first. ... Looking forward to new gutters/downspouts, new set of steps and privacy skirting as final touches when the time comes. It will be nice to have good airflow under the cabin as well as the weeping tile to keep things dry under there. #Cabin7LevelledUp #CovidLemonade #GittinRDone
