"Words cannot describe what a life changing experience this was. The interactions and the friendliness of the whales were spectacular. From watching them feed, teach their young, scrape barnacles off on the bottom of the boat, and come up to be touched." Kirsten Treais, who has just returned from our Wildlife Glamping Expedition to San Ignacio Lagoon to meet the friendliest gray whales in the world.

"My favorite time to dive there is the first and the last dive of the day, when all these predators and prey are the closest to the rock, with the tornado of whitetips swimming out of their little caves (they rest in balconies on the wall). At these times of the day, you can feel all the tension of the hunt and it is thrilling." Divemaster Yann, who is currently onboard the Nautilus Belle Amie in Socorro.

"In a year full of disappointment and frustration, our time spent on the Belle Amie with its wonderful crew was a welcome respite. Our suite is cozy and the perfect place to be rocked to sleep as we wrapped up long days of diving. Today was a remarkable day we saw multiple giant manta rays, hammer head sharks, and a very friendly whale shark who swirled around our group for most of the dive. Every day has passed in similar fashion; we dive with a knowledgeable, friendly crew; eat tasty, healthy meals prepared and served by accommodating hostesses, and then tumble into soft, comfortable beds. I can’t imagine a better way to usher out a remarkable year." Orlando and Janet from Colorado, onboard Nautilus Belle Amie

"Final day onboard the Nautilus Explorer... and the trip was fantastic, so much to talk about, but I will only say this: all the islands are full of marine life, beautiful pelagic all over, at San Benedicto island we've seen mantas, hammerhead sharks, silver tips. At Roca Partida, Galapagos sharks, and 'Mister Big' a whale shark swam with us. At Socorro Island, mantas , chevron and blacks, dolphins and hammerheads too..it was a nice trip with happy guest from many countries...see you next time!" "Our first dive with Nautilus was pretty low-key EPIC. Within moments of descending we were greeted by schooling hammerheads curious dolphins and playful mantas. What an absolutely MARVELOUS show! The crew is great and always masked up. 10/10 would recommend." - Joseph, LA, onboard Nautilus Belle Amie Discover more: bit.ly/3o9VizO

We normally favor sharing beautiful captures of subaquatic species, however we couldn't resist sharing these incredible photos from Baja Expeditions new wilderness glamping expedition to San Ignacio lagoon in Baja California, Mexico. San Ignacio lagoon is one of the last undeveloped gray whale birthing sites on the planet, and has been designated a UNESCO Heritage Site.

This year has been a rollercoaster, to say the least. But there is light at the end of the tunnel, and as the year draws to a close, we want to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Today we had our first day in "Roca Partida" with excellent dive conditions. Water temperature 28C/82F and visibility of 24m/80ft. Lots of white tip sharks swimming around the rock, Galapagos sharks and hammerheads here and there. On the first dive, we saw a big school of Bonitas and some good size tunas. The highlight of the day was the second dive we saw a whale shark!!! Tomorrow we are diving again in Roca, we all are super excited for more great dives and tonight a delicious dinner made by our chef Julio. While we regularly toot the horn for Socorro and all the incredible big animal diving across the archipelago, we wanted to share one lucky diver's experience diving in Socorro in December (spoiler: it's pretty spectacular)...

Nautilus Liveaboards 05.11.2020

Manta rays can be seen throughout the year in Socorro, but during the winter months, divers also have the chance of spotting a whale shark or one of the thousands of humpbacks that breed and calve in the area. Photo by @filippoborghi5 #socorro #revillagigedo #mantas #diving #scubadiving

We’re finally back in the Socorro Islands. Big schools of fish, hammerheads, silver tips, silky sharks, whale sharks, dolphins and giant mantas seemed they have been waiting for us! It has been the best possible way to restart our favourite adventure. We know that things have changed and we are very thoughtful about all the COVID protocols in order to provide you with not only the experience of a lifetime but to keep you safe and sound on our boats. We are very much looking forward to diving here this season and enjoying all the incredible moments that we are sure about to come. What a special day at Socorro Island! Mantas at cleaning stations, lots of sea life on the rock walls, the shark snorkel, and best of all: a long interaction with a pod of 5 dolphins who wanted to play. Add in Juan's amazing job at divemaster so we didn't have to fight any current, the chef's delicious dinner, and hours of laughs at the table and you have a day one will not forget in a lifetime. #mantas #Revillagigedo #socorro #diving #mexico #pelagic

What would you do if your found yourself among a shark feeding frenzy?

Nautilus Liveaboards 17.10.2020

It's amazing to back in the Revillagigedo archipelago, once again it does not matter what is happening around the world the islands remain pristine, nature at its best. This is the first trip of the season, and we already saw everything that is out there, loads of hammerheads at the canyon, playful mantas at the boiler, friendly dolphins at Cabo Pearce, whale sharks at Roca Partida definitely one of the best places to dive in the world. Revillagigedo has lived up to its incredible reputation. Dolphin's, whale sharks, hammerheads, Galapagos sharks and more. The Nautilus Belle Amie has been an incredible boat to call home during our stay in the Socorro's. The staff has been fantastic, and the boat is roomy and comfortable. We are already talking about when we can come back next! Thanks to all of the crew who have made this trip possible. photo@katrose #socorro #revillagigedo #hammerheads #diving #scubadiving

Manta Rays possess the largest brain of all fish. This is only one proof of their intelligence. The highly developed parts of their brain, like some mammals, are associated to complex social and problem solving skills. Together with their highly sensorial organs, they can feel a heartbeat from animals and detect an electric signature on them. They can easily distinguish divers and their behaviour. They can recognise themselves in the mirror. There is a language to be learnt from these animals and through their cephalic fins, we at Nautilus Liveaboards believe we can actually talk to them. They seek interaction with divers like no other fish does. photo @slauscheck.photography #socorro #revillagigedo #mantas #diving #scubadiving

Roca Partida was great on this trip! Today we saw mantas, dolphins and one more time a whale shark! Swimming around the boat in the morning, right before the second dive. We were so excited and jumped in the water right away. The dolphins were playful and fun to see. A small pack of dolphins with a baby one, everybody enjoyed the dive. What can I say about Revillagigedo, it "checked" all the boxes! The Socorro's, and the Belle Amie, exceed all expectations. We've seen many Oceanic Mantas, super playful dolphins, Silky, Galapagos, Whitetips, Blacktips, Silvertip, Hammerheads, giant Tuna and Wahoo and to top it off, a Whale Shark today! Check, check and check for the bucket list! The Divemaster's, Juan, Sten, Tiago, Pablo have been amazing as well as the Captain. Big shoutout to David, who I am taking the o...ne on one Backscatter photography workshop, for exceeding my expectations and making this an amazing experience. Not only is he an outstanding DM, his experience and knowledge of shooting big animals is unparalleled. He has taken my photography experience from zero to hero in 4 days! I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings! As a season dive traveller, this has been a great experience, and I am already planning my next trip back! The only improvement I can suggest is to understand and supply for true Keto dietary requirements as well as having more 2 pounds weights available. Fantastic whale shark encounters Nautilus Gallant Lady is at the northern part of the Sea of Cortez, and we just did the whale shark snorkel tour at Bahia de Los Angeles, it was amazing! There were at least nine sharks at the surface at one time going from mature 40-foot sharks to a baby 8-foot ones, but maybe we saw 12-14 different ones. Some of them were incredibly mellow and kept coming towards the divers while feeding. Guests enjoyed the sharks for hours being the on...ly ones in the water and got great pics. Weather can't be better, calm seas, bright shiny sun. It was amazing!! Can't wait to be back next week. La Paz, Los Isoltes, and its beautiful locals. This is the place that made me fall in deep love with Baja and will always be the one. This is where the whole mexican adventure started, and everytime I go back I remain conviced that moving to Baja was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Being far from home is, for me, very difficult so there is no other way to do it but being happy and fulfilled with what you do, because if it’s not like that, it will never worth it. A true exploratory trip with the Nautilus Explorer into Magdalena Bay. It was the trip of not only the sea lions, dolphins and Marlins but also wrecks, a seamount and kelp forest diving. The trip was a great combination of diving and racing around in the local Panga’s from guys (experts) that would come from Magdalena bay every day and take us to look for the birds that would lead us to bait balls hopefully. The last day we finally managed to get a good look of a bait ball f...ull of sea lions and marlin hunting until it was finished. We saw a lot of dolphins and sea lions every day and marlin for short bursts underwater and jumping high out of the water daily. Another highlight of the trip was a deep dive on a seamount that had not been dived before, huge schools of fish, bat rays, huge sea bass and much more. The crew was fantastic, very attentive and great food. I will be back for more adventures in the future! Today we are anchored on the North-east side of San Ildefonso Island. Weather today beautiful as always, light breeze from the east, seas less than 1 foot, clear skies and warm. Yesterday we finished the day with 2 more afternoon dives at Las Animas which were both great. On the last dive the 4 divers that went saw hammerheads at the north rock of Las Animas. After dive 4 we motored 105NM north to our current location, the transit was smooth and easy and we arrived at San Ildefonso just as the sun was rising and creating a beautiful orange glow in the eastern sky. We've completed two dives here today, both very nice. Some nice underwater topography with big rocky ledges and swim-throughs.
