Nelson Squash and Social Lounge 20.01.2021

A quick update: Not much has changed much since my last email in terms of Covid restrictions or announcements. We are holding steady for now until the next update announcement on Feb. 5. Just a few points to clarify and reiterate from the update from public health and the recommendations from squashbc.... Concerning group sports (which is whatever qualify as), players must remain 3 metres apart from one another unless being from the same household. Again, this suspends all match play for the time being. Drills that allow a 3 metre distance and solo play is being allowed. As well, keep in mind that the club is open to those who have a membership and have signed our Covid policies and procedures and have returned it to Rebecca. At this time we will not be allowing non members or guests to play. Please continue to sign in at the front counter, book your court in sportyhq and sanitize courts once done playing. During the time we’ve had to limit our play and social gatherings at the club, I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone!! Considering what we’ve been dealing with, things have run as smoothly as we could have imagined because of everyone doing their part at the club!! So going forward, again, there is an update announcement coming Feb 5 and we will be in touch then wothbjopefully some good news!!! Thanks again everyone. Garth

Dear Nelson Squash Club Members Happy New Year. We hope you are all safe and well and navigating COVID as best you can. On January 8 Dr Bonnie Henry announced that all restrictions would remain in place until at least February 5, including a ban on most adult sports. Fortunately, she did not order the closing of clubs such as ours. SquashBC sent out a response to this announcement to all clubs and we have updated our policy to reflect their position.... Below read the most significant statement from SquashBC If the adult group sport is indoors, only two persons participate maximum of two people on court whether a singles or doubles court e.g., 2 players or one player and one coach. Adult participants must maintain a distance of 3 metres from one another while engaged in the group sport, unless the participants reside in the same private residence. So how does this affect us? With the restrictions including a minimum distance of 3M, this pretty much shuts down our match play due to the nature of how and where our game is played, playing a match makes it nearly impossible to remain 3M from your opponent. So we are asking that you refrain from playing matches for the time being. One exception to the 3M rule is if you belong to the same household which puts you in a tight bubble. Participating in drills or coaching is doable, but PLEASE follow the 3M guideline. The Board will be meeting to discuss these issues further, but felt it was important to update our policy and inform all of you of the current position of SquashBC. I will be sending out another update after our meeting. We continue to focus as a Board on keeping the squash club open for safe play as long as we are able. Thanks and once again if you have any questions please be in touch!!! [email protected] 250-421-3343 Thanks to everyone!!! The Board!!

A few weeks ago the board had put together a survey for our membership, past and present, hoping to collect much needed feedback on how we have been operating and what our membership would like to see going forward. The Board has taken a look at the results and discussed them all. Please see below a response from the Board regarding the results. Thanks to everyone for your input and feedback!! Good evening everyone! Hope everyone is in full holiday mode, we just need some snow in town now! Well, after our board meeting last night I thought it would be a good time to touch base on where we are at.... Public Health has demonstrated that socialization after sports has been identified as a major source of transmission so with that in mind, we have decided to keep the lounge closed for the time being. Squash is our primary business and we want to keep that available as long as we are able. We will not be seeking opportunities to operate within grey areas of regulations and will operate within the spirit of Public Heath direction and by keeping the lounge closed we are discouraging the use of the squash club for socializing. We are seeking to be a part of the solution rather than part of the problem. We recognize that the social component of our club is very important to our members but we feel that it is the right direction at this time and continue to monitor and adjust as updates are presented. So with that being said, we are basically back to square one from when we opened back up in the spring regarding squash and our guidelines. We have updated our guidelines (see attached) and will adhere to these until, again, updates from public health are announced. So please remember to wear your masks when coming and going from the court area, play on the court that you have booked through sportyhq, and keep it to a maximum of 2 to a court. And sorry to sound harsh, but the idea is basically to play or match and vacate the club to allow the following players to get onto the court and to not congregate and socialize in the lounge area. I have attached the link to the provincial governments website that out the current province-wide restrictions. Thanks again to everyone for your patience and adjusting with everything that seems to be changing almost daily! That should be it for now! Thanks again everyone, Garth....and the Board https://www2.gov.bc.ca//covid-19-provincial-/restrictions

Have a Dunlop precision pro130 that’s getting no use; bought in on clearance on the off chance I would like it. Solid racquet but will be sticking with Harrow for the time being. DM me if you’re interested!

Good afternoon everyone Please see our full updated policies attached below. The Nelson Squash Club recommends that all players keep their ‘squash playing bubbles as small as possible (1-2 people). In accordance with new restrictions announced on Thursday, Nov 19 masks will be required for indoor spaces in all parts of the province, except for when eating or drinking in a designated food service area. People must wear masks in restaurants/bars unless they are seated at their table. All patrons of the squash club are expected to: -Wear a mask when entering the club. -Keep the mask on until in the court area, where it may be removed for games. -Put the mask back on to leave the club -Wear the mask at any time moving in the lounge (paying the bill, going to the washroom, etc), but may be removed while seated at their table. Court booking will be done through Sporty HQ. A maximum of three players (including a coach) will be allowed on each court. Players are restricted to one booking per day to allow equal access for all members to the court. Thank you for your co-operation during these changing times. The Nelson Squash Club Board
