Welcome to Victoria's newest team members, Sarah and Kate! Sarah is a Registered Kinesiologist and worked at MOVE Adapted Fitness prior to joining the Neuromotion team. Sarah is very enthusiastic about getting people moving and believes that exercise empowers people to maximize their quality of life. Kate is an Interim Physiotherapist, having recently graduated from UBC's Master of Physical Therapy program. Kate was a part of the Neuromotion team as Office Manager and Physiotherapy Assistant for 2 years prior to attending UBC, and we are thrilled to have her back on the team. Kate will work with each client and family to help guide their individualized treatment, maximize their functional abilities, and achieve their unique goals.

Do you have a spinal cord injury or work with people who do? Our clinics have begun collaborating with the Krassioukov Lab at ICORD, Vancouver General Hospital, to evaluate the effects of COVID-19 on access to rehabilitation and mental health (for both people with SCI and their rehabilitation practitioners) in both urban and rural communities. We're looking for participants for a survey and (optional) interview about their experience, for publication in a scientific journal, and we particularly need practitioners who are willing to participate! If you're interested in taking part, please e-mail [email protected] or message @sarahleongphysio on Instagram, as Sarah is our physical therapist who is coordinating the collaboration.

One of our main goals at Neuromotion Physiotherapy is to keep our clients and therapists comfortable and safe during transfers. When Tree came in for her first physiotherapy session, learning how to ride a bike again was one of her number one goals. Over the past few years she has worked incredibly hard to progress from needing help swinging her leg over the bike, to riding the bike with two people supporting it, to riding it completely independently this past week. We are so proud of you Tree!! Read what she has to say about accomplishing this goal below: Learning how to re-ride my bike has been my goal from the beginning of my journey at Neuromotion almost 3 years ago. I was, and still am recovering from brain cancer. With the help of my Physiotherapist, Jacqui, I can proudly say that I have accomplished this goal!

For this week's #WorkoutWednesday, we are focusing on the calf muscles. Today, Laura from our Victoria clinic shows us two exercises that help stretch out the muscles of your calf, followed by two exercises that help strengthen them. These muscles are important during the push-off phase of walking! Make sure you have a chair nearby to assist with balance while stretching out your calves.
