Repost from my close friend and favourite N.D. Krista Lowe Often when we are feeling emotionally overwhelmed and noticing cognitive symptoms such as difficulty focusing, ruminating thoughts, forgetfulness etc. We are actually experiencing an activated stress response in our BODY. The neuroscience giving us a greater understanding of the mind/body connection we are recognizing that we cannot perform at our best when living in a state of activation. In order to focus the mind, we actually need to first calm the body.

An excerpt from my favourite book, "When Breath Becomes Air" The memoir is written by a neurosurgeon as he faced the end of his young life with terminal cancer. I have shared this book with many of my clients who are asking the big questions - "What gives my life meaning?" "How Can I make sense of tragic loss and grief?" "What is the point of all of this?" Existential questions can be scary to ask. They can also be the greatest point of connection, with ourselves and with others. Before my grandfather passed away, we both read this book and reflected on what the end of his life meant to each of us. I will cherish those conversations forever.
Follow me on instagram as I share my thoughts, information about therapy and nerd out about the brain!
On #BellLetsTalk Day we have the opportunity to not only raise money for Canadian mental health initiatives, but to also engage in meaningful conversations about our experiences with mental health. Use today to share our experiences, show someone you care, and listen to people's stories - these conversations have the power to change stigma around mental health! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=az9ufxbkWDw
