November 11th, 2020-11am It was an honour to participate in the Remembrance Day Ceremony at the National War Memorial (Newfoundland) City of St. John's today. W...hile a different ceremony because of COVID-19 with a limited number of wreaths laid & masks & physical distancing required, the importance of remembering those who paid the ultimate sacrifice remains. We also pay respects to those veterans who fought & returned safely, & those who continue to serve in the Canadian Armed Forces & thank them for their service. A 21-gun salute & fly past was part of today’s ceremony #WeWillRememberThem Aide-de-Camp was Major Ross Tansley. Thank you.

As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've helped to reduced polio cases by more than 99.9 percent. It’s crucial to eradicate polio from the last two countries where it remains endemic and to keep other countries polio-free.... The Rotary Club of St. John’s East is holding a fundraiser to help with efforts to stop polio. Click the link for more info.

The Rotary Club of St. John’s Presents the Firefighter of the Year Award The Rotary Club of St. John’s is pleased to announce Central Engine Crew, B Platoon as the recipients of the Firefighter of the Year Award for their outstanding service during an avalanche at The Battery in January 2020. Captain Barry Burke and Firefighters Patrick Morgan, Cory Reid, and Sean McCarthy answered the 911 call advising of an avalanche during Snowmageddon, the worst storm in recorded hist...ory in the City of St. John’s. The members of Platoon B trudged through chest deep snow for 40 minutes, carrying full rescue and medical equipment, to reach the affected house and ensure the well-being of the homeowners and their neighbours. In uncertain conditions, their professionalism and skills prevailed to protect the residents of The Battery. During some of the most trying times in our lives, we depend on the professional know-how of our first responders to help us through, said Glenn Barnes, Co-Chair of the Rotary Club of St. John’s Firefighter of the Year Award Committee. The team members of B Platoon of the Central Fire Station personify Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self and are truly deserving of the 2020 Firefighter of the Year Award.
