It is with great sadness that we heard of the passing of our friend and fellow rehabber Guenther Golina. Please consider helping out with this Fundraiser as a great way to honor his legacy of loving wildlife! https://gf.me/u/y84b7v

A HUGE THANK YOU TO Fabulous Cakes by Jenn and Admiral Roofing for their incredible Fundraising efforts! We are so awed by their success and promise to put it all to good use helping wildlife in need. Also a BIG THANK you to those that purchased cupcakes for our Volunteers and Staff, that was a really sweet surprise!

Help us name the Grizzly triplets!

Northern Lights Wildlife Society 19.09.2020

Last night Peter & Angelika returned with 2 female grizzly cubs from Bella Coola. It was a race against bad weather, but all are safe here now. This will be a longer post, but we feel an important one and we encourage you to read it completely before leaving comments. As we drove into the Valley, we were appaled to see (despite snow on the ground) still trees full of apples and unsecured chickens, other small livestock, garbage and birdfeeders. It seems like people are delib...erately setting bears up for failure by providing food and then complaining about safety hazards because the bears come around to feed on the provided smorgasbord. This needs to change!!! No bear should lose it's life do to human failure to coexist. Conservation Officers have strict guidelines to protect public saftey and have little room there to help the wildlife. We learned that if a property is in an agriculture area most enforcement tools are exempt. How can that be? Is a farmer less responsible for coexisting? We think not, if at all (as a farmer ourselves) we have bigger responsibilities as we are sharing more space. NLWS has always remained apolitical to ensure all parties feel safe to call in for a rescue no matter the blame. Now we feel increasingly part of the problem by not pointing out the real killers that take lives not by their own hands, but by hiding behind antequated regulations and policies. We have a reelected government that now has 4 years to make a lasting difference. It is time to step up and do what's right. We all deserve to live on this beautiful planet people and animals alike, lets make rewilding wildlife a need of true accidents and not the result of human indifference. Thank you for your support and taking the time to read this. The NLWS Team See more
