North Shore Smile 01.07.2021

If you didn't receive our email today here is what Dr. Gillespie sent to all of our valued patients (if you didn't receive this and would like to get future correspondence, simply update us with your current email and you'll be on our list!) "I hope that you have had a nice long weekend and have been keeping healthy through these unsettling times. Since closing on March 16th for routine dental care, we are now planning to reopen the dental office on June 8th. There have bee...n guidelines put in place by the Provincial Health Authority and the BC College of Dental Surgeons on the safe care of patients and we will be going above and beyond these guidelines to provide an enhanced safety regimen to keep both you and our staff at the lowest risk possible. A significant HVAC air exchange upgrade has been placed in the ventilation system with UV treatments on the incoming and outgoing air volumes. I have purchased top of the line HEPA filters to treat the lower air in the operatories and a treatment room fogger to run in the operatories prior to any changeover between patients. My staff will look a little different in our PPE enhanced protective equipment but you can be assured that it is us underneath the gowns and masks! Our appointments will be slightly extended due to room and gown changeover and we will be mostly hand scaling for hygiene appointments in the first month. Social distancing will be in place in the reception area and all seating in the front of the office will be disinfected subsequent to anyone sitting in the seats. There will be additional screening questions prior to your appointments as well as infrared thermometers upon entry to the office. Our antiviral disinfectants are completely effective against COVID19. Katie will likely be wearing a mask at the front desk in addition to a plexi barrier that is common in stores these days. Visa pin pads will be wiped with our medical grade wipes and sprays between every usage. Payments can also be done via the phone. Katie will email statements or mail them to reduce direct interaction. We sincerely appreciate your patience and especially those who have had dental emergencies that have needed to be postponed due to the guidelines which were put in place. Your emergencies will be prioritized and we will do our best to take care of you upon our return in the manner that you have come to expect from us. As an exciting aside, along with the continued advancement of our technology in the office, we will be installing a new CT scanner for use in surgeries and advanced medical diagnostics. We look forward to seeing you soon and resuming to care for your dental needs. On June 12th, I will celebrate my 21st year as a dentist in Dundarave and feel blessed to have many of my original patients and families still in the practice in our journey together. 2020 will be one to remember!"

The recent news reports on flossing have been confusing to say the least! We feel that it is important to floss to prevent gum disease and remove the harmful plaque bacteria from between the teeth. The Canadian Dental Association agrees: http://www.cda-adc.ca/en/index.asp

North Shore Smile 15.01.2020

One of our most effective preventive treatments... American Dental Association guidelines endorse sealants as studies show a 70-80% decrease in decay on chewing surfaces with fissure sealants in the deep grooves in childrens molars.. http://www.ada.org//evidence-shows-kids-strongly-benefit-f

Pretty compelling study results to show the benefits of water fluoridation. There is currently no fluoride in the water in North or West Vancouver and we certainly are seeing high incidence of decay in kids. http://www.cbc.ca//tooth-decay-calgary-fluoride-water-1.34

Proper flossing removes plaque and food particles in places where a toothbrush cannot easily reach under the gumline and between your teeth. Because plaque build-up can lead to tooth decay and gum disease, daily flossing is highly recommended. Its never too late to start! #justdoit
