Today, we are honoured to announce that we are one of the winners of the Deryck Thomson Award granted by The Social Planning and Research Council of British Columbia to continue developing pragmatic solutions in solving the global plastic pollution crisis. Using our innovative approach by integrating education, policy, infrastructure development and cleanup (EPIC), we can continue to transform collective action worldwide for the health and safety of our oceans and future gen...erations to come. We want to really thank all the people and sponsors who have helped us in this journey so far and look forward to another successful year. Happy holidays everyone!

After 52 years when this cargo ship sank, it has now started leaking oil into Nootka Sound, BC. This area is very dear to our team as we have been cleaning these shorelines for years. This area is rich in whale activity as well as plays an important role in food production and transportation. We are on standby to help in any way possible. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbc.ca/amp/1.5838352

Incredible progress Joyce Majiski. "PAYING TRIBUTE TO WHALES Joyce Majiski, right, and Don Watt work on assembling Majiski’s whale for her exhibit ‘Song of the Whale’ this morning at the Yukon Arts Centre. The construct is a full-sized humpback whale skeleton made from discarded styrofoam salvaged from the ocean and beaches. The show will open Dec. 12 at the centre. Star photo by VINCE FEDOROFF"

We are happy to announce that our plastic processing machines have now arrived in Panama and are getting loaded on a boat to their final destination on Saboga Island in the Pearl Island Archipelago. Over the past year, the Ocean Legacy team has been working very hard to create a collection, processing and education centre called Saboga Bonita with the mayor of the Pearl Islands, the village residents of Saboga, and the Panama Sailing School. Plastic building bricks will be... produced from the areas waste plastic. We will also be launching a pilot deposit program on plastic beverage containers as well continue pursuing alternatives to open pit burning of plastic. Stay tuned for more information! Funding for this project was provided by Nestle Waters. #RecycledContent #PlasticCollection #CleanOceans #SabogaBonita #Panama #OceanLegacy #PanamaSailingSchool

It is crucial that oceans and ancient forests are protected as they both work closely together in an interconnected ecosystem to maintain the health of this planet and our communities. However, the BC government’s own data reveals that less than 3% of old-growth forests remain standing today. We must work across sectors to ensure that the integrity of our natural planet remains intact- ocean and forest. Please watch this short video of some of the oldest trees getting decimat...ed this year in 2020. Then write to Premier Horgan to make this end now: https://www.ancientforestalliance.org/take-/send-a-message/. Thousands of concerned British Columbians from diverse segments of society are all calling on the province to act now. Please support the Ancient Forest Alliance in their crucial work to end this destruction now. https://www.facebook.com/ancientforestalliance/videos/374852957172337

Sponsor A Bone! Check out this one of kind art exhibit which is a recreation of a full sized juvenile humpback whale made from shoreline cleanup foam. Joyce Majiski has hand sculpted each bone from pieces of extruded polystryene which have been collected from shoreline cleanup to honour this whale's life who passed away from Ghost Gear entanglement. The whole project is quite remarkable. Suspended in a recreated underwater setting that includes projections and an evocative s...oundscape by Daniel Janke, the exhibition Song of the Whale initiates a conversation between humans and our legacy with the whales, offering a platform for broader conversations about our disconnect from ourselves as nature. Song of the Whale is a tribute to this young humpback whale but also all whales, these incredibly huge and peaceful creatures that migrate the earth’s oceans. They embody the concept of global interconnectedness through water, reminding humanity of our rippling impacts and the possibility of choosing our most connected selves. If you would like to sponsor a bone, funds are being raised towards our Ocean Legacy cause as well for the MER Society. Please email Janet Patterson at [email protected] for more details to make your sponsorship. Hope you can all participate in this unique opportunity, here is a short video about the project :) https://youtu.be/x652zrYgJKo
