Complete and heading home. This piece had been painted red at one time and then solid white but now my client wanted it stripped and stained grey while still revealing the grain and sealed with a matte finish. My client sent along a photo of her radio cabinet I refinished for her a few weeks ago. One of the dilemmas we had in choosing colour was we wanted to ensure whatever we chose married well with her log home. I think we have a win. My client loves the classic lines and styling of Mid Century Modern (MCM) furniture. An American design movement, MCM furniture brought the Modernism movement into the postwar American suburbs. Known for its clean lines and simplicity, honest use of materials (teak) and lack of hardware or decorative embellishments, it has made a resurgence in the design world. Another day at this MCM. Paint and staining combinations mean I spend a lot of time taping off edges. Its coming together for a win!! (I hope)

Returned home and Karen and Barry Mower love it so much that they are not putting it back in their den. She wants everyone to see it.

Total deconstruct is happening on this MCM piece. Im removing all this uneven paint surface. Taking it all back. Paint slap, water rings and embedded paint. It all needs to go!!

Next in the queue My client loves her MCM (mid century modern) furniture but was not happy with existing paint finish. She is looking for a contemporary look while honouring classic MCM lines and styling. Stay tuned!!

Well, in all the years I have been salvaging and refinishing furniture, I have never struck the match on a piece, until this past weekend. It was cathartic, to burn it down. This piece made me bleed, swear, cuss and cuss some more.

Im thrilled with how this large vintage oak table turned out. My clients wanted the exact same finish they had originally but with a topcoat that would withstand the wear and tear of daily use. I think it looks incredible in their Millpond condo. Did you know!? The less sheen in a finish means the manufacturers have removed the harderners. So I top coated this table with two coats of satin finish to give it strength and protection and then two coats of flat out flat topcoat to give my clients the sheen they were after.
