WHY DO WE HAVE TO PAY FOR BAG TAGS? This is a very commonly asked question and we’re going to break it down for you. Quinte West's total cost for garbage, recycling and organics collection and disposal is $2.6 million. Your property taxes pay 50% for a total of $1.3 million, the rest comes from the purchase of garbage bag tags. ... We really want to encourage people to recycle and use their organics bins, which are good for the environment and are no additional cost. PLUS, with this system, if you only put out one bag of garbage per week, you're not footing the bill for people who put out 3 or 4 bags.
