We had the privilege today to work with our former mayor, Selvyn Reyes, to prepare and deliver food to the 70 families in Setzi who are still not able to return... to their homes because of flooding. We are safe from the two hurricanes that have hit in the last two weeks but others are not. On Sunday Elias Ca Al, Silas, Jim DeHart, Manuel Garma and I will be... traveling to chisec about 4 hours south of us to bring some relief to 172 families that are completely cut off on all four sides by an overflowed river. We are renting a couple kayaks that we will use in conjunction with a couple rafts the villagers built. It is a 40 minutes 4x4 trip to get to the floodwaters before the 30 minute raft trip before a hike of unknown time to get to the Q’eqchi’ villagers. Jonah would be going too if not for his broken arm. We have about $1,000 worth of medicine we are taking plus boxes of blankets and sheets that were donated for the clinic and are surplus. We are going to buy 525 pounds of rice here since they are out in that area. Cinnamon, noodles, oatmeal, beans... Together with Rocky and Karen Chupa who live in the area we will have three trucks and will be able theoretically to take about 4000 pounds of relief. Pray for safety for all involved and especially for the people. 4000 pounds divided by 172 families doesn’t go very far. When all is said and done, we get to come back home and they don’t. Also thankful for Rocky coordinating everything so that we make sure help gets to those who need it most. See more

The ro...ad between Chisec and Coban is still impassable (in 4 different spots). Food and basic supplies are beginning to dwindle and the forecast is calling for 8 straight days of rain for Chisec. Delivered food and hygiene supplies to 20 families in La Florida this afternoon. The water has been going down now for 5 days and many are back in their homes c...leaning up the mess. But as you can see in the photos, many families have not been able to return home yet. Thank you so much to all of you who are sending financial gifts targeted for flood relief. La Florida, Chisec, AV. The water has already come down about 3 feet and still these homes are inhabitable. Where once cars drove, now rafts transfer people from one high spot to another.
