Welcome to Red River College's Bachelor of Nursing Program virtual Pinning Ceremony honouring our 2020 Graduates. A Pinning ceremony is an important ceremonial marker for new nurses that has its roots in the 12th century but is more frequently associated with Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, who presented medals of excellence to the graduates of her London school. The presentation of the nursing pin to graduates celebrates their success as students and the promise of their future in the profession. We are disappointed that the 2020 Pinning Ceremony cannot take place in the same manner as usual due to Public Health orders related to COVID-19, however, we will still celebrate this occasion with our virtual ceremony.

Our graduates are entering a workforce that is changing every day, and we have a responsibility to ensure they’re fully prepared. It’s a responsibility we take seriously, and it’s why we need your support. In October, we answered the call to develop a program that rapidly teaches health-care workers how to perform COVID-19 nasal swabs in order to increase testing capacity in Manitoba. Even more recently, we launched a new program that fast-tracks training for students to work... in personal care homes. As a result, more than 300 new health-care workers will be added to the front lines, taking their place in the ongoing fight against this virus.
