Region 6 hosted a flag raising ceremony on November 16, 2020 to commemorate Metis leader Louis Riel. We'd like to acknowledge Elder Joyce Parenteau for attending and providing a beautiful prayer. . We were not able to have many attendees due to health guidelines, we were joined by a small group. . Metis Week 2020 was a great success with outdoor and virtual events throughout the week. Today from 5:00-7:00 p.m., we share Digital Storytelling: A Conversation On Cultural Retention. We have over 190 people registered! Dr. Yvonne Poitras Pratt i...s very excited to share a sampling of Metis digital stories with you and for you to hear what creating the stories meant to the Metis storytellers. Through our session activities, we will also preview how these stories are being brought into education by, with, and for Metis people working alongside educators. Event page: https://tinyurl.com/y5na4bw3 In partnership with RCTL, classroom learning resources have been developed to use in classrooms; each story is accompanied by a digital story, transcript, print and digital teaching resources. Our goal is to honour Métis culture and the authentic voices and stories of the Métis people, while also introducing teachers to community-created and authentic Métis resources. Following tonight’s event, you will be able to access these unique stories and resources on our website: https://www.rupertsland.org/teaching-learning/resources/ #MétisWeek2020 #métis #abmetisproud #métisvoices #digitalstories #MétisEducation

Due to an increase in confirmed cases throughout northwestern Alberta, our office has implemented additional measures to ensure the safety of Metis citizens, st...aff and the community. Region 6 staff are working remotely and available by appointment only. We continue to monitor the situation and will adapt as needed. As you enter the office, please use our handwashing station designed by Nipiy Industries, a proudly Metis-owned business in the Region. To the left of the handwashing station is a table with PPE such as hand sanitizer, masks and gloves. Use of PPE is required. New COVID programs have been announced and applications accepted until December 1. Metis Nation Region 6 would like to encourage all citizens to adhere to AHS COVID-19 guidelines. Please ensure you maintain 2M physical distance from one another, wash hands diligently and wear masks in public spaces. This is a time to avoid social gatherings, remain at home as much as possible and care for our Elders. We are committed to supporting our Metis citizens through these uncertain times and we wish you continued health.
