Robert's Platform: I am concerned about the future prosperity of Ontario. I believe that government has grown to be too large for a shrinking and overly-taxed middle-class to support. The Ontario public debt has more than doubled from $140 billion to $288 billion in the past 10 years. This situation is unlikely to change anytime soon given that all the political parties are unwilling to take difficult measures to reduce the debt.... As your Independent MPP for Mississauga-Brampton South, I would remedy our dire economic situation by pursuing the following policies: 1. Decrease the size and costs of government: a) lead by example - reduce the salary of all MPPs by 20% effective immediately b) immediately freeze hiring and freeze wages of the public sector workforce; no layoffs however, reductions to occur through attrition c) in all future contract negotiations, decrease all public sector workforce wages by 10% d) halt all new, non-essential public spending programs until the public debt is lowered by 25% e) no increases to health care, education and social programs and benefits until the public debt is lowered by 25% 2. Lower personal income taxes by 15%. 3. Earmark all budget surpluses towards decreasing the public debt with a goal of 25% reduction. 4. Reduce Corruption. Support judicial inquiries into scandals and corruption of government personnel, past and present, including the billion dollar natural gas plant cancellation involving the Ontario Liberal party. 5. Sell the LCBO and pay down the debt with proceeds 6. Abolish energy subsidies to lower electricity prices
