Mackenzie Miller had a bit of a tough day on Friday in Bantam class she lost both her matches but was able to score a few points. I think she was a little overwhelmed. She came away with the bronze. Saturday was a much better day. They entered her in a second weight class and she won her first match against Emily Lee from Ontario in overtime 13-12she scored with some great face shots and a slide in back kick. According to Michelle she reached all the goals she had set f...or herself for this event in one match. She then faced Isis Oro from Manitoba. Isis and Mackenzie have trained together quite a bit. They had a good match but Isis came out on topso Mackenzie faced Emily a second time. This time Emily came out on top I think mainly due to the fact Mackenzie was fighting hurt. Emily then beat Isis in the final to capture gold. Mackenzie received a second bronze medal. She represented our province very wellI was very proud of her. Mekonnen Cridland had only one other fighter in his division. The other young man was from Quebec and I believe had significantly more experience. Mekonnen looked very strong in the ring but had some difficulty scoring. The other fellow bested him in both matches. All in all I was very happy with their performanceas you well know a first national event can be somewhat intimidating for young athletes. With this experience behind them they can move forward on their TKD journey. Several of the Saskatchewan referees commented to me on how significantly the caliber of Mackenzie’s sparring has improved over the last year. She works very hard and has been training 6-7 days per week to get ready for juniors. Respectfully, Warren Miller - Kim's Moose Jaw
