While fishing is a great social distancing activity, there are a couple things anglers need to keep in mind while ice fishing this season. Ice shacks (i.e., enclosed shelters for use in ice fishing) may be used and do not require the use of masks and physical distancing if the occupants are immediate household members (i.e.: people you currently live with). The use of ice fishing shacks by individuals who are not from the same immediate household is prohibited at this tim...e under the current health measures. Regarding travel, occupants in a vehicle must be limited to members of the same household only. If carpooling must occur, physical distancing should be maintained as much as possible, and masks must be worn. Do not travel or share a vehicle if you are ill or have symptoms of COVID-19. With all the snow in southern Saskatchewan, some think a snowmobile might be a good alternative to hunting by vehicle. However, snowmobiles are considered the s...ame as an ATV, on which firearms cannot be carried during an open big game season. This includes a sleigh attached to a snowmobile. In zones 1-47, 52, 54, Moose Mountain Provincial Park, Regina/Moose Jaw, Saskatoon and Prince Albert WMZs, and the Fort à la Corne WMU, no one is allowed to carry a firearm (including a bow or crossbow) on an ATV during an open big game season. Modifications to vehicles, such as installing tracks, turn that vehicle into an ATV. Consequently, firearms will not be permitted and it no longer can be operated on any provincial road.
