For the week’s #FeatureFriday we’re highlighting First Aid and CPR Instructor Deborah Burgan who has been providing training in essential life-saving skills since 1994! This is Deborah’s #SJAstory. Deborah thoroughly enjoys being a part of the SJA Team in Nova Scotia. She says that being an instructor with us means a lot to her, as it gives her the opportunity to help others. She calls it a great part time gig! We are pleased to be able to offer flexibility to our instru...ctors, so they can schedule training on their terms. Just one of the many perks to being a first aid instructor with SJA! Deborah also appreciates the fact that she is able to help prepare people for the unexpected. You never know when you might find yourself in a situation where someone needs your help. Being trained in first aid and CPR gives you the skills you may need to intervene and hopefully save a life. We are always interested in recruiting more dedicated and passionate instructors like Deborah in Nova Scotia and PEI. Deborah highly recommends getting involved if this is something that interests you. Go ahead and give it a try. You will like it! It is fun and a great experience! Deborah, we so appreciate your passion and dedication to SJA NS PEI! Thank you for all you do to promote the importance of first aid and CPR training. For this week’s #FeatureFriday, we’re highlighting a Therapy Dog volunteer, Elizabeth Chapman who, along with her dog Moxy, have been volunteering with SJA NS PEI for 3 years. This is their #SJAstory. Moxy is a Yorkie and is 9 years old. Elizabeth has a pet stroller for Moxy and says, when we visit she is at the same level as the residents in their wheelchairs so they can easily pat her. Elizabeth used to work as a nurse at Wynn Park Villa in Truro, NS and there was a pood...le who used to visit there and when Elizabeth saw how much the residents enjoyed visits from this four-legged friend, she decided to have Moxy evaluated for the Therapy Dog Program. How has volunteering with the Therapy Dog program worked out for them? It has been great. Moxy loves the residents, and they are excited to see her, and to see how she is dressed each week, and the smiles make it all worthwhile. It sounds like Elizabeth and Moxy go above and beyond to brighten the days of those they visit! Elizabeth continues, We enjoy seeing the residents and they are so excited to see Moxy. The time we spend with them is so special. Some residents who don’t respond to much of anything will smile and pat her when we visit and that makes it extra special. Thank you so much, Elizabeth and Moxy for spreading smiles and bringing unconditional love to those who need it the most!
