I love it when we get to elevate our training standards. More often than not you have someone talking AT you during training. We like to engage participants and use better quality equipment to promote higher retention.

We have talked about what you should have in your first aid kit at home but did you know you should also have a roadside emergency kit for your car as well? Especially in the winter when the roads are slippery anything can happen. The following items can help you if you're stuck in some snow or if you have to wait for a tow truck and need to stay warm. - First Aid Kit - Wool blanket - Flares or triangle reflectors... - small foldable shovel - Sand, salt or even non-clumping cat litter - Candles in a deep can with matches - Jumper cables - Flashlight and extra batteries - Whistle - Bottles of water and some energy bars Another good safety tip... anytime you change your tires make sure you get the lug nuts re-torqued once you put them back on, you don't want them falling off as you drive down the road!

We all have many reasons for wanting to take a first aid course. For most people, it is completely about saving lives. However, did you know that there are many other great reasons to get certified! The quicker you can administer first aid, the faster the recovery time. Your immediate response can make all the difference between the person having temporary or long-term disabilities. Life Start teaches you to remain calm during an emergency and helps you to fully understand your first aid training. This is very important as it will allow you to be confident and feel more in control so you can be more effective when you really need to be.

Don’t tell 2021 that we have some fantastic programs coming out Status quo has never been apart of Life Start’s core values. As the world changes so do we. We don’t believe one size fits all, as we grow we need to learn new things... So stay tuned.... Wash your hands Wear your mask And don’t lick metal objects now that it’s cold

Lucky had decided that instead of running to the store to get a loaf of bread, he would make his own... That part was a great idea. Working with the lid off and crawling in to get your hat that fell off not such a great idea . We never said he was smart, all we said was his name was lucky.

The Christmas tree is glowing, Bing Crosby is singing in the background, and you have just lit your scented candle and are getting ready to wrap your presents. What could go wrong at this point? Plenty if your pumpkin spice candle is too close to the wrapping paper or on the coffee table where the kids can play with it. Remember to keep your candles out of reach from children and pets. Place them in a well-ventilated area away from anything flammable. If you leave ...the room, make sure to blow them out before you go. To keep the flame from becoming too high, trim your wick to 1/4 inch before lighting it and trim it every 2 to 3 hours of burning. Candles are beautiful and can add ambiance to any room. Just remember safety first.

Life Start First Aid & Safety Training 02.10.2020

Participants, clients and raving fans of First Aid, Let’s first all agree that 2020 has been a year for the record books. Everywhere you look, you’ll find stories of challenges, losses, successes and adaptation to this new world. Covid-19 has affected every one of us, and has challenged small business owners to grow and pivot outside their comfort zone, Life Start is no exception. When Life Start first launched, my vision was to change the stigmas about taking First Aid thro...ugh public education and top-notch training. The last four years have proven that passion, quality training and a positive (yet fun!) attitude can make a lasting impact - and help people save more lives in our communities. As we’ve grown our presence across New Brunswick, we’ve been fortunate to have worked alongside the Canadian Red Cross. But as the world changes, so do training needs, and we’re 100% committed to adapting to that. With the exciting launch of our very own WorkSafeNB-approved virtual and blended courses, we are no longer able to work through the Canadian Red Cross, effective September 25, 2020. Having the ability to pursue innovation that better serves you (in 2020 and beyond), and being able to pivot programs to meet the demands of a quickly changing world, is so important to us. We know what our clientele needs, and will continue to offer and develop our own programs that are, and always will be laser-focused on quality and safety. We’re thrilled to soon be able to share new initiatives that will allow us to have further reach and help us to give back. Thank you all so much for your continued support of our local business. We can't wait to see what the next year brings! ~Khryspn Jensen

Raise your hand if you’ve watched your kids do stupid shit So this is how last night went in my house Me - Trying to be a Pinterest mom let’s wrap all the Christmas gifts to look like reindeer (picture #1) P.S. they are not Also me - teenage son get me your hot glue gun for the antlers hot glue guns are hot right?... Me again - teenagers don’t talk much mostly they just grunt for responses look at how cute my reindeer look! Teenage son - I’m going to put hot glue on my hand Me - Not a good idea Teenage son - Does it any way (no surprise there) * screeching sound when the glue hits his hand along with some extreme break dancing in the kitchen* Me - well that wasn’t smart. Go put some cold water on it Teenage son - You can’t tell me what to do Me - It’s going to keep hurting and blister go put cold water on it (picture #2) Teenage son - You don’t know what you’re talking about Me (in my head) - Nope I have noooooo idea what I’m doing, it’s not like it’s my job or anything 20 minutes later the teenage son finally puts cold water on his hand and takes an ice pack to bed with him. Less than two hours of sleep last night and constant cooling resulted in picture #3 (yup I wanted to say told you so) So First Aid for partial thickness burns 1. Don’t deliberately put hot glue on your hand 2. If you don’t listen and do it anyway, cool the area for 15-20 minutes with cool running tap water 3. Lightly wrap with gauze once the area has been cooled 4. DO NOT POP THE BLISTER. I am sure that I still have no idea what I’m talking about and teenage son will come home with a popped blister Merry Christmas everyone

As a business owner, this is a daily concern/fear. We can take every precaution, clean every surface, screen every participant and still end up with a case linked to a class. Everyone is doing the best they can in an ever changing world. Every day presents new challenges, wondering if we will be open in a week, if there is a 2 month shut down looming around the corner, if they will be still be in business this time next year. This virus has hit small businesses the hardest a...nd instead of pointing the finger or placing blame, let's all work together and support the best way we can. How many times have you said, "I don't need gloves; I am just running to the store for a minute," and ended up being out almost all-day in -18 degree weather? Then when you get home, your hands are freezing! We have all done it, but did you know your "freezing hands" could actually have frostnip or frostbite. Never heard of frostnip? It is a real thing, and it is different from frostbite. Below are their definitions and how to treat them... :... is when your skin tissue begins to freeze because you are in below-zero temperatures. The affected area is still soft to touch with frostnip with only a slight discoloration (usually pale). It may also cause a tingling or burning sensation before the area going numb. F: Warm the area slowly. Lukewarm water works best, and as the water begins to cool, add more warm water to it. : This is when the underlying skin starts to freeze, and the area will become hard and waxy to the touch with discoloration, blisters and numbness. F: Warm the area slowly; if it was your hands, you could place them in your armpits or groin area. It is important to wrap the affected area with gauze pads to make sure the skin does not freeze together while you are warming it up. If blisters appear, do not break them. This is the body's way of trying to heal. If you have concerns about either one, it is always best to check with a healthcare professional. It is always better to be on the safe side.

Did you know that anyone can use an AED? AEDs are essential to save lives. The more people who know how to use them, the greater the rates will be for heart attack survivals. No one needs to be trained to use an AED. The makers of the device have made it so the AED itself will walk you through every step and give you the confidence to help, just like 911 dispatch would. I just wanted to give a shout out to everyone who is struggling to find the balance in the "New Normal" I see you and understand the struggles. This week has been a mix of work and vacation. Sitting pool side answering the phone and emails isnt ideal but we all have to do what we have to do. I encourage everyone to take a moment and truly look at the person you are questioning, instead of passing judgement look at whats not being said. This has been a working vacati...on for us, even with working I still managed to spend quality pool time (almost being drowned by my kids several times because they think I am a dolphin they can ride on), got my butt beat at mini-golf (I am blaming it on they got to practice while I was at work) and we have eaten better meals than I would have time to cook at home. We are all building our own empire whether its at work or home. Dont waste your time worrying about the people who drop into your life long enough judge and try to take you down. Youre better than that, just remember everyone looks way better on the other end of the screen. PS I didnt post the picture of Liam crying and jumping up and down as he was loosing mini-golf and I also want to add its taken me 40 minutes to write this post because my kids think I am the cookie/water/snack dispenser and wont give me 10 minutes to myself uninterrupted Take a minute and breath, I know many of you are struggling. ~Khryspn - slightly insane after banishing electronics from my kids on this trip

We all love the bee. They give us all the food but sometimes they will sting us. Also since mother nature is hating on us lately - murder hornets. Given the potential for both we figured youd need some first aid treatment methods for both. ***side note kill the hornet those beasts will sting you over and over and over and over...kill it quick.... Mild reactions and treatment: ~Move to a safe area to avoid more bites or stings. ~Remove the stinger. ~Wash the area with soap and water. ~Apply a cool compress. If the injury is on an arm or leg, elevate it. ~Apply bite cream, calamine lotion or a baking soda paste to the bite or sting several times daily until your symptoms go away. ~Take an antihistamine (Benadryl, others) to reduce itching. ~Signs and symptoms of a bite or sting disappear in a day or two. Severe reactions, require medical treatment: ~Difficulty breathing ~Swelling of the lips, eyelids or throat ~Dizziness, faintness or confusion ~Rapid heartbeat ~Hives ~Nausea, cramps or vomiting ****Call 911, if there is an Epi-Pen use it immediately For more info, book with us today! https://www.lifestarttraining.com/courses/
