The Saskatchewanderer 11.11.2020

I recently wrote a guest blog for Conexus on how I've stayed mindful of spending while on the road this year, as well as some of my favourite destinations in Sask. Check it out over on #MONEYTALK: https://www.conexusmoneytalk.ca//travelling-on-a-budget-a/ PS, the pic on the blog is from Cypress Hills Destination Area. I'll be sharing my time there soon!

The intricate natural formation of Castle Butte, and its stunning panoramic views from the top (when it's not too slippery to climb!) make this one of the most popular landmarks of southern Saskatchewan. Made of sandstone and clay, she majestically stands nearly 70 meters high and dates all the way back to the ice agewhen unfathomable amounts of glacial water eroded and carved out Big Muddy Valley as we know it today. *Note: This landmark is closed during calving season in April and May with dates subject to change.

*Sourdough* donuts! Made fresh from The Everyday Kitchen. Absolutely legendary. [Brown Butter, London Fog, Cookies & Cream oh my] . .... . Ok, now that I have your attention, make sure you have your winter tires on! I recently sampled these tasty local donuts while I had my changeover done by the CAA Car Care Centre at Regina Battery Depot. They offer storage too, and have stored my tires for me all year. After this weekend’s lovely winter showcase, definitely thankful for my CAA Saskatchewan membership with Roadside Assistance. Stay safe out there! #SKStorm

Here's one classic I couldn't miss: Aust's General Store. Visiting Big Beaver was extra special this year because unfortunately in August, longtime owner/operator Ronnie Aust suffered a stroke. The good news is that he's made tremendous progress in just a few short months. I truly wish him and his family well! Here's to a speedy and full recovery. And if you don't already know, this place is just the sweetest. It's the store that has a bit of everything, but it's all the r...ight things. From groceries, apparel, outdoors stuff, housewares... the list goes on. Their famous saying goes: "If we don't have it, you don't need it" ; ) With holiday shopping coming up, now will be more important than ever to support our local vendors. I picked up some awesome Big Beaver Apparel there and will be scoping out more local finds in the next few weeks

Many told me it was the coolest Home Hardware ever, and they weren't lying... this place was unreal! Timber Café is located within the family-run Lloydminster store and serves up freshly made food and drink (plenty of gluten free options too). They might have one of the loveliest patios I've seen yet and I imagine it's a pretty awesome place to hang in warmer months. Beyond that, the store is full of locally made goods and beautiful holiday displays for the season. For ...all of the places I went in Lloydminster, it's over on the blog. You guys know I love my coffee shops, but there's more than that, I promise ; ) https://saskatchewanderer.ca/blog/discover-lloydminster #DiscoverLloydminster
