Watch Robyn tell her incredible story to Global Calgary! After losing her home to a devastating fire, SOUTHLAND School Bus Driver, Robyn Gilliland, was concerned with one thing: the children who ride her bus. I didn’t want to let them down at this time, and as it turned out, I had so many of my little people that were so concerned about their bus driver that lost their home, it just warmed my heart, Gilliland said.

Brr! With winter setting in across much of our country, don't forget to dress for the hazards! Winter weather and driving conditions can cause delays for bus routes. Make sure your children are dressed for the weather, and never leave them unattended at a bus stop.

Check out this adorable co-pilot! Evie rides the bus with her mom, a SOUTHLAND School Bus Driver everyday. Did you know our employees can bring up to two pre-school children on the bus with them? For Evie, it is a dream come true! She loves helping her mom at work, and seeing her "bus gramma" at our yard.

This week is #SchoolBusSafetyWeek! In recognition, we will be sharing daily safety tips from October 19th - 23rd. Passing School Buses: Never pass a school bus with it's stop arm out or red lights flashing. Children could be crossing the road, heading home or going to the bus! Passing a stopped school bus with its alternating red lights on could cause serious injury.

Be safe. Leave space. As kids are travelling to school, people driving can expect to see more people cycling on the road. This is a great opportunity to take a ...few minutes to become familiar with how to share the road safely. When driving 60km/h or slower, you are required to leave a minimum of one metre when passing someone cycling. When driving faster than 60km/h the safe passing distance increases to 1.5 metres. You may cross a single solid line to complete a pass if it’s safe to do so. If you can’t pass safely with the minimum amount of space, slow down and wait for an appropriate opportunity. When cycling, ride as close to the curb as possible, recognizing that you may need to use the full travel lane to make a turn, and to avoid debris and parked cars.
