It's Artifact Spotlight! This week, we put the spotlight on a mid-nineteenth century cabbage cutter!
Signs of the Times: How often do you actually notice the signs around you? Do you see them once, then they become just part of the scenery? As the song said, Sign, sign, everywhere a sign. In this series, we’ll bring samples of signs from the past. Some are large, like billboards; others are small and more individual, like a membership card. Many are promotional; some are informational; some simply want to call your attention to something.
Coming Home Coming Home, Commemorating the end of WW2... This virtual photo exhibit captures the poignant moments that were a part of coming home after WW2 ended, in September of 1945. Using the unique on-line features of the History Pin Collection. we are able to create a picture map of the relevant locations throughout the City of St. Catharines and in some case we can even see specific locations then and now. (Look for the images with the little yellow person graphic in the lower left corner). Click this link to experience this virtual exhibit... bit.ly/2WuiRYp

VT Victorian Tweets What if the Victorians had Twitter? Victorian Tweets juxtaposes daily Victorian life found in newspapers, diaries, letters, and ephemera from the Museum’s archival collection against the modern Twitterverse. As modern and progressive folks in the 21st century we enjoy a certain distance from the romanticized and contradictory Victorian Period. As you scroll through our Victorian Twitter Feed take notice: are we really as distanced from our Victorian ancest...ors as we like to believe? #stcatharines #ourhomestc #stcmuseum https://bit.ly/2zrmjdC See more
Family Ties: Mothers’ Beautiful Babies The Beamsville Fair, 1939, included a Beautiful Baby Contest. Shown here are the four prize babies, proudly held by their mothers: Mrs. Thomas Webb, Beamsville, with William James, the prize baby boy under six months; Mrs. Frank Phillips, 29 Beech Street, St. Catharines, with Frances, the best girl under six months; Mrs. Konkle and Patricia; and Mrs. Neil Tufford, Beamsville, with William Neil, the best boy over six months.
We're all about that DIY life! Last night, a few awesome staff removed the old information desk from the lobby here at the Museum. Removing the old information desk was an important and big step in implementing phase one (re-orienting the lobby) of our interpretive plan. We're excited to welcome all our visitors with a more spacious and easily-navigable lobby. We can't wait till it's all finished!
