Every year after our Trunk Show we choose a #charity to benefit from a donation. This year we chose @heartandstroke as so many members of our families have suffered or have passed away from cardiac issues. #heartdisease is the second leading cause of death in Canada after cancer (and disproportionately affects women) and is a leading cause of hospitalization. Not only that, those with heart disease can also present to our offices with vision threatening conditions including partial or complete loss of vision. Its been a long time since we did one of these...so heres another edition of #staffspotlight! Erin joined out staff almost a year ago and you can find her regularly at our Innovation Drive location. Erin got glasses when she was 7 years old and she became interested in eyes ever since. She achieved her MOptom in July 2019 which is one step closer to becoming an Optometrist herself! Her most interesting job in the past was working as a petty officer on a tall ship. Her favou...rite colour is green and she loves seafood and wood-fired pizza. Erin will soon celebrate her first wedding anniversary and one of her favourite trips was her honeymoon to Zermatt and Chamonix. Optometry has been tied to OHIP, without a negotiable contract, since the late 1980s. Decades later, OHIP now only covers half the cost of the eye exam, and optometrists personally pay for the rest of the cost to deliver the service theyre providing. We are so proud of these ladies! Jasmin (left) and Jessica (right) were both hired by St. Lawrence Optometry about 2 years ago (and Jessica was a patient from a young age too).
