Teacher Spotlight: Jesslyn Truax, owner Take 5 I knew very young I had a passion for teaching. Starting dance at Denise Lester Dance Academy at the age of 2, I found a love for dance that never wavered and friendships that have lasted decades. It was also here that I found my love of teaching. The support I still receive from Denise is something I cherish daily. ... After finishing my competitive career of 15 years, receiving numerous awards and scholarships throughout North America, obtaining Associate Member status in Ballet, Modern Jazz, and Stage Tap with the British Association of Teachers of Dance and Acro certification with Acrobatic Arts, Take 5 Dance was founded in 2001. As we begin our 20th season, I am thankful for all the past and present families who have supported us and believed in our philosophy. Resilience is key, and I am ready with fresh cheoreography, new tips and tricks, along with my passion and drive that remains strong no matter what! I am ready for you dancers! #iloveteaching #ilovemyteam #bestjob #take5dance #herewego

Teacher Spotlight: Renee Smith At a young age, Renee knew dancing and teaching was her passion. She grew up as a competitive dancer of 10 years, receiving numerous awards and scholarships, opportunities such as competing in NYC, dancing in galas and being the Face of Let Get Loud 2017/18. She also danced in shows such as Durham Day Time TV, The Guelph Contemporary Da...nce Festival, New Blue Emerging Dance, and many more. Her 18-year dance journey began with Ballet. Once Renee realized dance was her calling, she began training in styles such as Jazz, Lyrical, Acro, and Musical Theatre. Contemporary, Modern, and Hip hop was introduced to her at the start of High school and she fell in love with those genres ever since. Now, Renee is currently in her last year at Ryerson University’s Performance Dance program studying for her BFA. Since starting at Ryerson, Renee has danced in Ryerson Dances, Enchoreo, Choreographic Works, Choreographers Ball, Young Creators Challenge, CRAM, Ryerson Dance Pak, and is a part of an upcoming film for Fall for Dance North. By audition process, Renee was a selected choreographer for Ryerson’s Enchoreo, and Choreographic Works. Renee also debuted her choreography in Ryerson Dance Pak’s competitive team, Ryerson basketball games, and in high school, the Sinclair Dance Team. Renee’s goals are to become as versatile as possible in her dancing and choreography. Her teaching style is to always keep a positive atmosphere while challenging dancers to step outside their comfort zones and learn. Renee can't wait to start her first season at Take 5 and is excited to reach new heights with her dancers. #welcomerenee #ourteachersarethebest #take5dance @reneejsmith_ See more

Teacher Spotlight: Welcome Sara! Sara began dancing at a very young age, just outside of Toronto, and has not stopped since. She grew up as a competitive dancer and has competed locally and internationally. This is where she fell in love with the art of performing and that feeling of being on stage. Through this experience, Sara began her professional career at just 13 years old. Since, she has travelled all over the world performing for multiple corporate galas and eve...nts (Miami Pride 2018, 2019, Dundas Square Tree Lighting, Sick Kids Hospital, CLIA Awards) music videos, television (So You Think You Can Dance Canada), theme parks (Universal Studios City Walk, Canada’s Wonderland and Ontario Place), and cruise lines (Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises). With over a decade of experience working with and choreographing for dancers of all ages and levels of experience, Sara has taught and choreographed for dance studios’ competitive and recreational teams, Workshops and Dance Intensives, Toronto, York and Durham District School Boards, as well as York University (Dance Energy Dance team), Canada’s Wonderland and Celebrity Cruises. Sara has received her associates from BATD in ballet, acro, modern, and stage (Tap), attended the BFA Dance Program at York University, and has received her teacher training with Sugar Foot Therapy. Sara has been recognized for her larger than life energy and passion both onstage and in her choreography, as well as her ability to connect story and dance to create a memorable experience for her audience.
