Mondays are rather the only day that stick out to me, in the week, anymore. For some reason, despite all the other days blending into one another, Mondays just have a certain feel to them. A ‘here’s-your-chance-to-get-the-week-started-on-the-right-foot’. Start fresh. Set the pace. I like Mondays. A lot. ... Today, is going by a little too quickly, for my liking, though - I am behind my schedule by about two hours, and I can feel my anxiety starting to rise. Quickly. I am going to finish this IG post and then, despite being behind, I am going to make a cup of tea and relax for a few minutes. Then I shall have a staff meeting for one, and then have a good pep talk and conversation with myself about reasonable expectations for productivity in a day, as a single employee/owner business. I will try to listen, this time. (So much is a work in progress, these days!) In the meantime, I wanted to share this trio of Tall Boys with you. That’s sort of the name I have settled on for this new design. I am not sure it will be permanent, but I’m kind of digging it. The crown isn’t actually THAT tall, just 4.5, but the lack of trim means the crown makes a bolder impact. I love them. The brim is a new block for me - it’s asymmetrical and difficult to capture in a photo. Marie-Eve sent me the selfies of her in her own Tall Boy, which she picked up this autumn just gone. Hers is in Velour felt, but these are in a long knap finish, but they are the same silhouette. These are suitable for 56cm - 57cm head sizes. I am happy to send awkward selfies, if you are interested in purchasing one, or if you want to pull the trigger and jump on one, just write ‘Dibs’ in the comments and then drop me a howdy on [email protected]! The hats are special priced at $278 for the solids & $298 for the Leopard print. Shipping is $30 to Canada and $45 to the USA. All prices are Canadian Dollars, Sales are final I better get some tea (@fortnums Countess Grey, today!) in me, I am in need of it’s restorative properties. Do you like a good cup of tea in the afternoon? What is you favourite kind? x Kelly #smallbusiness #breathe #justanothermanicmonday #thesaucymilliner @ The Saucy Milliner

Happy FriYAY, friends and Hat Lovahs! One thing that I have been LOVING about this mild winter that we have been enjoying, is getting to wear my berets in January and my ears still being warm! The Eridan beret is back, and it brought friends! I asked the talented artisans at Laulhere to make me some of this beautiful beret in the Sable (creamy camel) as well, this time - it’s just gorgeous.... A fitted Basque beret, decorated with beautiful, vintage woven labels, from previous collections going decades back, each Eridan is delightfully unique. I have one in each size in black, Erable (rusty orange), Sable (creamy camel). Small (55cm-56cm) Medium (57cm - 58cm) Large (59cm - 60cm) Please call dibs in the comments (size and colour) and shoot me a short email, so I can send you a secure e-invoice! Please express your interest, even if someone has called dibs on the size and colour you want. These stunning merino wool, heirloom berets come beautifully packaged in Laulhere’s luxury hat box, and shipped carefully packaged in a thick, shipping carton. $248 Canadian plus shipping ($15 to Canada, $25 to USA). Sales are final. Folks doing curb side pick ups will also have the added treat of one of Laulhere’s luxurious shopping bags, which they sent me, normally reserved for their brick and mortar boutiques in Paris, like on the Rue St. Honere. Earlier today, when I was walking to the post office to ship to a client in Toronto, with her packaged up Eridan in my hands, another local client passed me on Elgin street, and she happened to be wearing her own Eridan in black! It was a really fun moment, to see my wares out in the city, in action. My favourite labels are the ones which are from the Art Deco period. You are literally wearing history, when you adorn your head with one of these hats, and I think that’s just a little bit romantic and special. :) Well, it’s time for a cup of tea and to get on with the mountain of paperwork I am tackling, here. A super exciting Friday night, ahead, lol! Stay very well, friends. Wishing you all a very peaceful and cosy evening. What a treat to see 'A Simple Favor' back at Number 1 on Netflix movies, in Canada! If you are home and can't move because you have been eating too much cheese since Christmas (I may just be speaking for 'I'), I suggest you just roll with it and make another cheese plate, pour yourself an #aviationgin martini, and escape with this wicked romp, directed by the wonderful and impeccably stylish, Paul Feig. It's such great fun! It was one of my more adventurous millinery film j...obs - at one point in the production process, I had to fly to NYC from Halifax, Nova Scotia (I was running a pop up shop in Lunenburg, at the time) to colour match a specific piece of metallic lambskin, and then send the hat onwards to Toronto, where they were shooting, on location. Happily, I had my passport, lol! A variant of it's predecessor, The Saucy Milliner 'Bondage' Fedora, this gorgeous grey, fur-felt dandy is such a mischievous piece to wear and I was thrilled it was used in the character's introduction scene, which has since become quite an iconic look - costume designed by the brilliant Renee Renée Ehrlich Kalfus. I have been busy in my Sussex Drive millinery atelier, this week, and I have finished two of these hats, which are ready to ship. They are 22.5" (but can go down to a 22" with some sizing foam) and I can ship to the USA, Canada and the UK (which will be about $200 Canadian). Please email me on [email protected] if you are interested in purchasing one! The hats are $398 Canadian dollars - please check your own exchange rates. Each hat is meticulously and professionally hand blocked and trimmed by myself, using traditional millinery techniques, taught to me by master milliners. These are heirloom quality, couture hats, for you to enjoy and treasure, for years to come. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions! Warm regards from chilly Ottawa! x Kelly https://www.instagram.com/p/BoCTbiInUFZ/ #blakelively #asimplefavor #asimplefavorhat #blakelivelyhat #martini #costumedesign #fedora #handmadeincanada #readytoship

FriYAY! NEW beret shape and some Last Chance Lovelies! Hi Gang! It was a slow, rainy day in the shop and so I rustled up some goodies to share with you tonight - a few berets which I am nearly out of, and a style that, whilst it has been selling in the shop, has yet to make it’s Instagram debut - The Subra beret! The Subra is a voluminous beret, which comes housed in the most grand and beautiful of Laulhere’s hat boxes. The beret diameter is 13 inches - just enough for a b...it of extra panache. I have a small black (55-56cm) & a Large Black (59-60cm). $248 reg - Special price tonight $228! Also making an appearance tonight, is my last Luna! We love Luna! Please see previous posts for happy clients sporting this hit of the season! Last one is in Erable - she comes with a beautiful box, also. $228 CAD Suits 21.5 - 22.5 best, up to a 23 at a snug fit. The beret with the labels sewn onto it is the Eridan - not featured much here on the gram, because it’s been selling out in the shop, lol! This one is a large and suits 59-60cm, also comes with a box. $248 CAD And lastly - my last ivory Angora beret and 2 more black Angora berets left! These berets come with dust bags. $98 Canadian Please call dibs in the comments below if you would like to purchase! Shipping varies with $30 to USA / $20 to Canada for Subra ,Eridan, and Luna $20 to USA/$15 to Canada for Angora berets. Then shoot me a wee line on [email protected] so I can email your invoice! Aside from the Subra, these berets have all been featured in recent posts, so please have a peek if you want to see them on clients, or for more photos! Thank you for all considering supporting my small business and this beautiful, heritage brand. Laulhere have a YouTube Channel - check it out! It’s so cool. OK - time for me to go home and make supper, and if I’m not too bagged, play with Beastie for a little bit. We love watching The Madalorian, and are just about to start the new season, I’m so excited. Happy FriYAY night everyone. Be excellent to each other. This is the way. #thisistheway #berets #beretlove #smallbusiness #handrafted #heirloomqaulity

Introducing Saucy Nudes! This is a collection that I have been meaning to share for a wee bit, but as I have been building each piece, they have been selling in the shop, and so it has been difficult to get a group photo together, lol. Tonight I have 2 designs from this more contemporary and minimalist collection, which is silhouette and texture driven. Admittedly, my photography skills are limited, and these will show much better on a model, but I think that those of you ...who have been following my work will be able to see where I am going, here. Please read this post carefully, as sizes and all prices, along with how to snap one up, will follow. :) Style one is a tall crowned, asymmetrical, and somewhat flat brimmed fedora. Clients have been loving this bold, yet completely wearable, silhouette. Shown here in Mink (22.) and Alabaster (22). Special Pricing until Friday $268 CAD. Style two is a dome crown paired with the fabulous slant brim, which I debuted this summer with my Panama hats. Remember that gem? It’s just as wonderful in this long nap melusine, fur felt. Think Annie Hall, but with a twist. The Bronze colour (darker) is snug - a 21.75 crown, so if you are a 21.5, this will work for you with a touch of sizing foam, which I can include. The Alabaster is a 22.5 head size. Special Pricing until Friday $268 CAD For the 22 hats, I can include sizing foam to snug them down to a 21.5. It will work for these designs. Please call dibs in the comments below and then fire a quick email to me on [email protected] so I can send you your e-invoice. Shipping to the USA is $40, Canada $30, prices in Canadian $, sales are final. I am happy to email you selfies for more angles and better context. More to come from this collection, hopefully next week... These are beautiful and wearable shapes and I’ve been loving sending them out into the world - thrilled to finally have a couple of them on hand to debut with you, tonight. #thesaucymilliner #fedora #handmadehats #couturemillinery #canadiandesign #myottawa #finemillinery

It’s beginning to small a lot like Christmas! I love Christmas candles. This morning I am burning @diptyque’s Sapin de Nuit, from their new holiday collection and am loving it. It’s lovely for setting a romantic and peaceful, holiday mood, whilst I catch up on my emails - timed perfectly with our first, substantial snowfall, here in Ottawa. I am a bit distracted by the dreaminess of it all! Ok, millinerd, get off the gram and get back to work! Monday’s are typically bananas, here in Saucyville, but it’s nice to just stop and smell the Sapin, sometimes, ya know? #candles #christmaslover #romantic #decor #mondaysarentsobad

New beret style - The iconic Laulhere Beret Basque! I hope everyone is enjoying this romantic and snowy evening, here in Ottawa, and if it is not snowing where you are, then I hope you are all snug and serene and enjoying a wonderful Sunday. This post is taking me a bit longer to complete, because it’s Beastie’s first real snowfall, and she has me scooping snow off the windowsill for her to stick her snout into and to eat, like a snow cone. She is being ridiculously cute,... and very distracting! On to the berets, then! These magnificently crafted hats are so lovely to wear - a truly timeless beret, and available this year, in some really gorgeous colours. The Basque is a sized beret, with an interior sweatband. You will need to know your head size in cm. It is good to get a friend to help you measure, using a soft measuring tape, and there are various videos on Youtube on how to do this. :) It is also a blocked beret, not flat like the Classic. It has more depth to it and more dimension. It’s just lovely. Sizes are small (55cm - 56cm), Medium (57cm - 58 cm) and Large (59cm - 60cm). You can let me know in the comments, which colour you would like, and then please also drop me a quick line on [email protected], so I can email you your invoice. I will be back in the office tomorrow, to catch up on this weekend’s correspondence and invoice emailing! Please bear with me until then! I’m the only one floating the boat, right now, and do not have access to my computer on weekends. The Basque beret is $198 CAD plus Shipping $20 to Canada, $30 tot he USA. Please note that sales are final. The scrumptious colours and sizes available are: Sable (creamy camel) 1 Small Erable (Rust) 1 Small, 1 Med Eclipse (Blue) 1 Small, 1 Med Jungle (Green) 1 Med, 1 Large Curcumin (Golden Yellow) 1 Small, 1 Med, 1 Large Cocoa (mushroomy brown) 1 Med Winter White 1 Med Passion (a perfect red) 2 small Black 2 small, 2 Med, 2 Large Forrest Green 1 Large Tumeric 1 Large Bubblegum 1 Large Have a dreamy night, everyone, and I do hope that you all had a most wonderful weekend filled with happiness and joy. #snowynight #dreamy #romantic #beret

Monday Funday! I’m putting finishing touches on two (2!) of my Saucy Milliner Blake fedoras, over the next couple of days and they will be ready to ship on Thursday! Both of these hats fit a 22.5 head size and are just perfect for a gorgeous autumn day. This is one of my favourite hats to both make and wear - the medium grey, velour finish, fur felt has a sort of lavender undertone and is versatile and easy to wear. I’ve been getting some wonderful messages from clients w...ho own one of these designs and they all tell me how much fun it is to sport! The height of the bold crown is tempered by the lambskin trim, which you can open wider or close, depending on how you wish for the eye to be drawn. Open the trim up to create a less bold crown, close it to elongate the height of it, if you are in the mood for something with a bit more impact. You decide! I personally hand block and finish each of my hats, to ensure each of them is an heirloom quality piece of fine millinery, which you will treasure forever. Please comment below and email me on [email protected] if you would like to purchase one of these classic designs! This post is cross posted. If you are not sure of your head size, check out YouTube for videos on how to measure your head. The Blake fedora is $398 Canadian dollars (*approx* $300 USD - but check with your own bank!) plus shipping ($30 to Canada, $40 to the USA). It comes shipped, carefully packaged in a Saucy Milliner hat box, which is then packed inside a shipping carton. All sales are final. Have a lovely evening, everyone! I am working late, still catching up on my emails from over the weekend. No rest for the wicked, or the self-employed, these days! Happy FriYAY, friends and Hat Lovahs! After a very long and a very fun day in the shop, I am having a girls’ night in with my best Beastie, the last episode of the new season of The Crown, and a cup of herbal tea. The latter may turn into a glass of scotch, but between us both, I can already feel my eyelids going down like a lead balloonbut not before I share this post, hee hee! As sleepy as this milliner is, I am excited to share this very special Laulhere design - The Er...idan. I actually had been meaning to share it with you sooner, but the first batch flew out the door, and this batch is now almost gone. Admittedly, one on my very own melon, lol. (I got the Erable!) A fitted Basque beret, decorated with beautiful woven labels, from collections and decades gone by, each Eridan is delightfully unique. I only have 3 left - black size Medium (57cm - 58cm), and Large (59cm - 60cm), and an Erable (rusty orange) in a Medium (57cm - 58cm). Please call dibs in the comments and shoot me a short email, so I can send you a secure e-invoice! This is cross promoted. These stunning merino wool, heirloom berets come beautifully packaged in Laulhere’s luxury hat box, and shipped carefully packaged in a thick, shipping carton. $248 Canadian plus shipping ($20 to Canada, $30 to USA). Sales are final. I absolutely adore my own Eridan, and have had such lovely feedback from several clients who are already loving theirs just as much. My favourite labels are the ones which are from the Art Deco period. You are literally wearing history, when you adorn your head with one of these hats, and I think that’s just a little bit romantic and special. :) Well, it’s time for the last half of this month’s Netflix binge indulgence, and a spot of chase with The Beast before following the second star to the right, and straight on till morning. Wishing you all a very peaceful and Crown-filled evening, my friends! Good evening, gang! If you have had your eye on these gorgeous, very generously sized, wool, Union Jack throws, please reach out to me on [email protected]. I’m ordering a batch for shipping for October, on a pre-order basis. If you would love to secure one, please reach out to me on [email protected] and let me know how many you would like (they make great gifts!). I will not likely have extra quantity to ship, so if you have been thinking about getting... one, please let me know. Measuring in at 200cm x 135 cm, an manufactured in the UK in the oldest vertical woolen mill left in the country, they are the perfect way to keep cosy during the winter months ahead. The shop sofa is what I would call a three seater (well, not anytime soon - wah!) and as you can see it stretched the length of it. It also drapes across the foot of a queen size bed, nicely. These wool lovelies cost $278 Canadian and shipping to Canada is $20 (I can fit two in a shipping box!) and to the USA is $30. Please check your exchange rate, if you are in the US. Shoot me an email, I will shoot you back an invoice in the next day, which you can securely pay online. I am putting my order in on Wednesday morning, so please get back to me by then! Cheers, gang! OK, I am officially pulling the plug on my day - time to snuggle under my own Union Jack throw with a hot tea, The Beast, and a flick. I’ve been in the shop all weekend, so we are having some quality girls time. I’m not sure what we will watch, but since I will fall asleep ten minutes in, probably something I’ve seen before, lol. Last of the Mohicans, I think. The first ten minutes are really good. xx Kelly

Having a fun FriYAY in the shop with some familiar faces, and some very lovely new ones, too! I usually don’t have time to look at my phone when I am on the shop floor, but I have a moment and thought that this was a rather pretty shot of some of my decorating efforts, from last night and early this morning. Still more to do, but off to a good, festive start! Back to the shop floor with me! So@much to do! And a special thank you and shout out to my cousin, Emily, for helping me get the shop ready, this morning. Thanks, Em! #friYAY #christmasspirit #red #decorations

The Saucy Milliner 26.10.2020

Good Haturday morning, my Hat Lovahs! I have a special promotion in the shop, right now - I have received a limited re-stock of the GORGEOUS *merino* wool stoles, which sold out immediately on the first shipment, when I paired them with some of my Laulhere Angora and Classic Berets. The Berets have been getting a lot of attention this season, with many clients from Ottawa and my old Toronto (holla!) shop coming back for more of these beautifully and traditionally crafted hat...s. Quantities are very limited and I have cross promoted this on my Instagram, as well, so these sets will go to the first folks who get to me on [email protected]. I am posting the Merino Stoles with the Angora Berets this morning, and the merino Stoles with the Classic Merino Berets, tonight! The colour descriptions of items are in the photo description. I do have a few of the berets available to ship on their own, but not many, so if you would like just the beret ($98 CAD) or just the stole ($88), let me know and I will get back to you (Probably tomorrow, as I am heading to the shop for the day). The stoles are very special - they are loomed at the oldest vertical woolen mill in the UK and are a generous 50cm wide. Merino is MUCH less itchier than regular wool and you get the warmth without all the bulk. Many of you are already familiar with my Laulhere berets, which are all made for me, using small batch and traditional techniques at the oldest, and last remaining, traditonal beret manufacturer in France. The Angora berets fit 21.5" to 23" headsizes (there is a video I can send you on how to stretch them, if needed). These gorgeous sets make great gifts! PLease consider shopping with small, independent boutiques like mine, this very challenging season! I am continuing to do my best to keep my brick and mortar open, and to bring in gorgeous, unique, and traditionally crafted inventory for my wonderful followers and customers. An e-commerce site IS in the works, but will not be ready for a wee bit (unless I can clone myself, lol). In the meantime, please email me on [email protected] and I will get back to you soon. I don't use FB or IG messenger, this one-woman show finds it more streamlined and less overwhelming to keep my correspondence to one medium, right now, and I thank you for your understanding! Limited quantities. Sales Final. Shipping can be combined and is $15 to Canada and $25 to USA All prices Canadian Dollars, so please check your exchange rate, my lovely American hat lovers! You will find it is much less! :)

Chubby Stems On Parade! Hello friends, and happy Haturday! How is everyone? I’ve missed you! After a wee break from social media, I am thrilled to be back, on this beautifully sunny Saturday with some fun posts planned for today, and the week ahead. ... I thought I would kick things off with the happiest of little Autumn millinery confections, a Signature Saucy, the Chubby Stem Beret. They are made from the highest of quality millinery fur felt, and suit head sizes 22 - 22.5. They come with a discreet elastic, which slides under the back of your hair, to help secure it. The gorgeous and versatile colours I have available are: Aubergine, Plum, an exclusive Teal (last piece!), and Bronzed Olive. Each hat comes carefully packaged in a Saucy Milliner hat box, which is then packaged inside a shipping box. Cost per Chubby Stem is $198 Canadian Dollars (Special Price) plus Shipping/handling/insurance: to USA $45, Canada $35 All Sales are final. Please heck your exchange rate if you are in the USA To Purchase: Please write ‘Dibs’ in the comments, and state which colour you would like! Then shoot me a little email ([email protected]) from the address you would like your secure, e-invoice sent to! If someone has already called dibs, write ‘NIL’, or Next In Line. It’s a gorgeous, sunny day here in Ottawa - we are so lucky to have this weather! (Cross promoted) Today I am featuring a promotion on a much loved brand that I carry, Lillie & Cohoe, of British Columbia. This is a handmade, luxury brand that features gorgeous designs using high end fabrics. This brand has a very loyal following and I have SO much fun selling it in the shop to long time fans and new wearers, alike. The quality is amazing - these are hats to cherish for many..., many years. No fast fashion here, ladies. Today I am going to feature one of the fan favourites - the Grace hat from the Boiled Wool collection. This design features Liz’s signature asymmetrical brim, which is the perfect width in the front to help eep the snow off, and is shallower in the back so as not to fuss with your scarf or hood. The boiled wool is thick and lush, and there is also a satin lining and a polar fleece ear panel that you can untuck to cover your ears when it is colder. I forgot to take a photo of the ear panel! I’ll try to stick it in there, later! These hats normally sell for $198 CAD and I am taking the ones in this post to $148 (!!) plus shipping ($15 to Canada, $25 to the USA). I *NEVER* put my Lillie and Cohoe on Sale, so this is a great opportunity to snap one up at an even more amazing price! Size 1 if you are 55cm - 57 cm and Size 2 if you are 58cm - 59cm! In size 1 I have: Aubergine, Heathered Grey, Red (2 of them), Forrest Green and Black, and in Size 2, I have Black, Forrest Green (2 of them) and Red. They will also be on sale in the shop tomorrow and Saturday! Today is SO warm out, but the Winter is Coming, so if you love Lillie & Cohoe, holler at me in the comments below! Size and colour! Shoot me a message after on [email protected] and I’ll get back to you later with an invoice! This will ship Monday morning. Do you own a Lillie & Cohoe Grace, already? Comment below and tell me how much you love her! Hee hee! I sold lots of these in my old Distillery District shop and I know that they are floating around in the world, out on adventures! Have a great afternoon, everyone - I’ll be posting some Blake Fedoras, tonight! Keep your eyeballz peeled! xx Kelly #thesaucymilliner #canadianmade #heirloomquality #winterhat #Canadiandesign #sussexdrive @ The Saucy Milliner

I especially love hearing from my clients and getting updates on their latest adventure with their Saucy Milliner hats. Natalie S, of Long Beach California, sent me the most wonderful and kind message, along with these AMAZING photos of her perfectly capturing ‘Emily Nelson’ (Blake Lively), in the character reveal scene at the beginning of the film, for her Hallowe’en costume (or, everyday cosplay, in my world, lol). I adore the BTS photo of Natalie’s mum, providing the ...practical rain effects! Great job, ladies! Thanks for making such an incredible hat that makes me feel like a million bucks Cockles warmed! Thanks for letting me share these photos, Natalie, and thank you for embracing the whimsy and the joy that I really believe makes up a large part of what a Saucy Milliner design, and wearing one, is all about. I will have 2 of these hats available on my post, later tonight, in a size 22.5. Stay tuned! #blakelively #asimplefavor #myclientsrock #hatlove #costumedesign #fedora #boss #clientlove #handmadeincanada #canadiandesign #classicstyle #smallbusiness @ The Saucy Milliner

March of the Chubby Stems! I have a trifecta of cuteness, here - my Saucy Milliner Chubby Stem Berets! This punchy little hat has been eliciting smiles as part of my Signature Saucy Collection for a few years, now! It is a super fun number to sport AND to make! I hand block each of these hats using the highest quality millinery fur felt, which is made in Europe. The mold I block it on is an original La Forme hat block - a highly esteemed Parisien hat block maker, recently r...etired, so now even more coveted! This particular beret shape is asymmetrical, with a beautiful sweep. My dear friend Christine was visiting my boutique in July and was very kind to let me take these pics of her, joyously modelling a couple of Chubby Stems. I love you, Christine! Christine lives in Toronto where she is a busy, multiple-time Emmy award winning television costume designer. If you have children, you have seen her amazing work on Odd Squad, Dino Dana and Ghostwriter. Christine also loves hats, and that is how we met, when I had my boutique, in the Distillery District. I’m convinced that one day, we will go on a grand millinery tour in Europe, where we will buy ALL the hats and leave a trail of mischief in our wake. This millinery design is a percher hat and suits head sizes 21.5 - 22.5 best. It secures via a discreet elastic that slides under the back of your hair. You may find you do not need the elastic, and it can just be snipped out. Very special pricing tonight, on this Saucy couture, at $198 Canadian Dollars, plus shipping ($35 to USA, $25 to Canada). Sales are final. I’ll be cross posting this on my IG and FB! Please comment if you would like one and then shoot me a quick email on hello@ thesaucymilliner.com. :) Colours available tonight are the highly coveted teal (limited colour!), Aubergine (eggplant), and the Plum (lighter of the two purples). All beautifully scrumptious and versatile colours! I’m off to squeeze a couple of hours in the studio to finish up a Blake hat for a dear client of mine, and then to BED, lol. Been a long day, for this millinerd! Wishing you all peaceful night, friends. (PS - Anyone else binge watching The Crown?!!)

On order! Good morning, gang! I’m re-ordering these gorgeous, pure wool, Union Jack blankets and I would love to have an idea of how many to order! Some of you may remember them from last summer - they were such a hit, and sold out very quickly. As autumn approaches (Yay! Tweed season!), I am putting my order for my UK made, throws and scarves. Please comment below if you would love one! You are not obliged to send me money or anything, I just want to get a feel for how muc...h I should bing into the shop. I will be shipping these, as well, though I can’t give an accurate quote just yet. These throws are made in the UK’s oldest vertical woolen mill, and they make everything from scratch , in-house - from cleaning and carding the raw wool, to dyeing and spinning and weaving. It is TRUE heritage craftsmanship, on the highest level. They are 200cm by 130cm and will retail somewhere around $270 - I can’t give an exact price until I confirm my order, but that’s the range. If you think that cuddling up under this cosy throw with a glass of scotch and some good netflix sounds good and would love one, comment below! They also make great gifts, or come in handy at the cottage! I was so impressed but the quality of these throws, and I cannot wait to get them back into the boutique! For everyone asking, I will also be getting more of the tartan and herringbone shetland throws, again this season, and more of the merino wool ruanas and scarves. Stay tuned! #wool #heritagebrand #madeintheuk #thesaucymilliner #heirloomquality #unionjack #smallbusiness #shoplocalottawa #ottawa #exexpat #londonlife #uk #homeawayfromhome @ The Saucy Milliner

The first ten minutes are really good. xx Kelly

What better way to welcome in that familiar and dreamy shift in the weather, than with a beautifully soft, merino wool stole and timelessly chic, merino beret? Ladies, I am SO in love with these plush stoles (30 x 72) loomed in the oldest vertical woolen mill in the UK, which dates back to the 1830’s. The beret I am matching each scarf with is our Classic merino beret, also traditionally crafted by a heritage brand, Laulhere of France. Both companies do ALL of the work in... house - meaning they start with the raw merino wool and clean it, dye it and card it, loom/felt it and take it right through to the finishing. Both of these beautiful items are treasures to wear for years and years to come and are exceptionally priced for such quality and provenance. Today, I am offering these sets on an even more special price, and I will admit, it’s not an easy thing to do, for any small business to do right now, but I am keen to get these gorgeous products out there, and for you to discover these brands, and hopefully, when you fall in love with them as I have, you will come back for more. :) These beautiful sets are priced at $158 CAD (Separately $166). The berets suit head sizes 21.5 - 22.5 and shipping is $20 to Canada and $25 to the USA. I have two sets of Carbon Grey and Camel Stole with Sable (creamy camel) beret, two sets of the Carbon Grey and Camel Stole with Black Beret, One set of the Pinks/Camel/Taupe Stole with Sable Beret, and finally one set of the Pinks/light grey/Ivory Stole with Light Grey Beret. Call dibs in the comments, then, shoot me a quick email with ‘Beret and Scarf Promo’ in the subject heading and I will get back to you with your invoice. :) This is cross posted on my Instagram, so sets will go to whomever emails me first! Don't worry - I am building an e-commerce site, and purchasing will get easier, lol. x I have more of the berets in other colours and will post the classic berets that may be sent individually tomorrow! In the meantime, find a video on Youtube and measure your head, because if there is one hat you treat yourself to this fall, make it a chic beret! #beretlove #heirloomquality #sussexdrive #fallfashion #sustainablefashion #shoplocal #thankyouforyoursupport #myOttawa

A huge and sincere thank you to everyone who came by the boutique over the past few days. It was a wonderful weekend of (mostly) sun, smiles and Team Sauce shenanigans. I’m the good kind of pooped, and I’m taking the rest of the night off to hang with Beast, drink scotch and watch some Sons of Anarchy (yes, I know I’m super late to the party on this one). This is long time Saucy Supporter, the wonderful Ms. J, who came by the boutique, in a delightful whirlwind, to scoop up the leopard riding percher from Fancy Friday’s post. From the moment she put it in her head, it was clear that they were meant to be together! I’m so thrilled for both of them Have a great evening, everyone, and thanks again for a lovely weekend! @ The Saucy Milliner

Sunday Funday = leopard print Saucy Specials! :) This is a cheeky little group of Saucy Milliner hats, right here, and they are all ready to ship! I adore making perchers hats especially, in leopard print, and have two, punchy little perchers ready and raring to go! The lines and silhouette of the La Forme cap (bottom right) was the most difficult to capture, so just comment if you would like me to send a selfie ;) The cheeky little LaForme cap fits a 22.5 head size and is... a delight to wear, with a neat little cap style brim that extends around the whole of the base of the crown. ($248 Reg:$298) . The Toque is also made on a vintage La Forme (a retired hat block maker, in Paris) mould, which I believe is from the 80’s revival of 40’s style. I can totally picture Grace Jones or Alexis Carrington totally Rocking this silhouette. So much fun to wear! 22.5 and $248 (Reg: $298), and that works out to about $184 USD, but please confirm with your own bank’s exchange rate. . The fedora is my iconic, slanted, wide brim - 4 - with a 4 crown, as well, and my signature bow. Fits a 22.5 head size! $398 (Reg: $498) . . These Saucy Milliner Originals are handmade in my Sussex Drive atelier , above my boutique using the highest quality fur felt and luxury grosgrain ribbon. I meticulously block each one by hand, using my collection of vintage and custom built wooden hat moulds. All of my ladies’ millinery is created by myself - this ‘slow making’ way of creating each hat ensures my personal attention to each part of the process. Every stitch and detail is considered, making your heirloom Saucy Milliner hat a treasure to be worn and loved for the years to come. . Shipping and Insurance to Canada is $30, USA $40. . Please call dibs in the comments and then shoot me a wee line on [email protected], to purchase! Nothing much dreamier than a rainy, sleepy, Sunday Morning at the workbench. I’m listening to @cbc_music and working on Gabrielle’s Saucy Milliner Traveler Panama. It’s the most lush shade of pale cinnamon- almost a sort of latte. Mmmm...cinnamon latte. I think I need more caffeine, before I open the shop at noon. It’s going to be a bit of a slow-moving day, methinks. What is everyone up to, today? #thesaucymilliner #rainyday #atelier #handmade #panamastraw #summerhat #hatlove #Ottawa

I hope everyone has enjoyed a wonderful weekend filled with coffee, air-conditioning and perhaps a nice single malt? I have been working in the shop and it has been such fun seeing some smiling, familiar faces! Thank you so much to everyone who stopped by to buy a hat, or offer words of encouragement and support! All much needed, right now :) Thank you! I am working on a small batch of my ready-to-ship Saucy Straws, which I will be cross-posting over on my Instagram accoun...t, as well, as I finish them. I got my hands on a wee bundle of beautiful Panama straws, in gorgeous colours and patterns - perfect to enjoy the rest of the summer in! Still loads of sunshine to go, so why not rock it out in a finely crafted, handmade hat? I ship to Canada ($30) and the USA ($40) and each hat is shipped in a Saucy Milliner hat box, which is packaged inside another shipping box. This chartreuse lovely is my popular 'Elliot' silhouette (the same block set I use for the Blake Fedora) and is trimmed with my signature bow, in glorious and luxe, Mokuba grosgrain. This hat is made using authentic, handwoven-in-Ecuador, Panama straw and is $278 Canadian dollars. (So, *about* $203 USD, but please do confirm your own exchange rates. Shipping also quoted in Canadian Dollars). Please call dibs in the post comments and shoot me an email on [email protected], and I will fire back your secure e-invoice! This is cross posted, so until my e-commerce site is finished (can't wait!) it's on a first come basis, in the email department! PLEASE NOTE - headsize: This hat will fit you nicely if you are a 22" - 22.25" headsize, but not bigger! Stay healthy and safe, everyone! And wear a hat in that blazing sun!! xx Kelly

Squeezing in a precious hour of studio time before heading down to open the boutique, for the day. Will I see you in the shop, today? It’s my birthday weekend, so come say hi!! Also, we are really lucky to have the @natgallerycan finally opening. Like many businesses trying to cope with the COVID situation, they will also be operating on reduced hours, but huzzah for weekends being some of them! So come visit me and my neighbours, at the Gallery, for a fab Saturday afternoon out on Sussex Drive! xx Kelly #sussexdrive #smallbusiness #heritagetrade #slowmaking #hatshop #panamahat #style #canadiandesign #madeincanada #myottawa #ottawa

Happy Sunday! These two Saucy Straws are making their way to a lovely client in Stouffeville, Ontario, tomorrow! The black and ivory patterned one was made on my ‘Elliot’ silhouette hat block, and I used a 1.5 grosgrain to really emphasize the boldness of the crown. The ivory slant brimmed hat currently has a waiting list, as I eagerly await the arrival of a shipment of Panama straw. It’s such a lovely shape and this tone on tone colourway is so pretty and versatile. I hope you are all enjoying a wonderful afternoon - it’s getting cloudy here in Ottawa, but I’ll be in the shop until 5! Please remember to bring a mask, if you do come by for a visit! #thesaucymilliner #summerhat #couturemillinery #finehats #panamahat #ottawa #tourismontario

Thank you to everyone who moseyed on down to the O.K. Corall, today, to try hats on and say hi! We’re doing it all again tomorrow from noon to 5pm, so see you then! Kelly (Yeah, that’s my lariat.)

FriYAY! Some of the lovely, new Mayser hats from Germany, which will be available in the shop, this weekend! Only a few left, so come by and try some on! Mayser are a German heritage brand that have been making exceptionally crafted hats for over 200 years. Their iconic travel hat, the hemp ‘Bella’, is shown here in three colours and comes in 2 sizes and is priced at $148! It’s just the prettiest little thing. You can squish it flat for ease of packing, on your summer adventures. Only one each of the other two lovelies, left, also - come by for a visit! I’ll be in the shop from noon - 5, and don’t forget your mask, please! Let’s keep working together to kick Corona to the curb! The shop is still a cardboard explosion, but my new windows are shaping up and looking great! Totally in love with the Mayser hats that arrived unexpectedly, yesterday! A beautiful heritage brand from Germany. More on them later, it’s going to be a late night and an early morning, and don’t be surprised if I’m still working on getting things priced and steamed, if you come by the shop, tomorrow! Two shipments arriving in one day, is more than this one-woman circus can handle in this heat, lol. See you tomorrow between noon and 5, and don’t forget your mask! xx Kelly #ireallydidusedtobeinthecircus #thatsastoryforanothertime #hats #myottawa #smallbusiness #supportlocal #hatlove #heritagebrand #heirloomquality

Happy Monday, Hat Lovahs! I hope you all enjoyed a fab weekend and got outside for a dose of sunlight and fresh air! Anyone else got a Manic Monday lined up? After an early morning play session with The Beast, I popped by the studio to take a quick felt inventory and I thought that the light was so pretty on these fur felt cones. I wanted to throw my steamer on and block the magenta-y one into a little percher hat, but alas, other tasks will have me out of the studio until a...t least 5pm, today. I am in the shop waiting for UPS to deliver my shipping cartons, which is now over a week late! Gah! I have some gorgeous panama straw hats that are all packed up in their hat boxes, just chomping at the bit to get into the mainstream to Gabrielle, Jacquie, Mary and Ashley. I’ll be in the shop until they arrive, then it will be a flurry of parceling and a post office run, if it’s still open. In the meantime, hoping to catch up on some emails and other odds and ends in the shop. With a bit of luck, I’ll get a couple of hours in the studio before my eyelids start to droop. I hope you are all enjoying a peaceful morning that is full of delicious coffee and tastey treats. See more
