Hello everyone! We are still only providing essential and emergency services at the clinic, but please reach out to us at [email protected] or 807-345-4665 if you have questions or concerns about our services or to arrange emergency care. Please continue to heed government recommendations and stay home when possible. We will update this space as things continue to progress. ... In the meantime, check out this behind-the-scenes video of our technicians completing a drape, where they lay hot thermoplastic over a modified positive cast. This plastic is sealed and vacuum-formed, left to cool, then cut off and prepped for an initial fitting. Stay healthy and we will see you soon!

Check out her page (Taylorpedia) to see all the good she does for our community and to follow her on her journey. Way to go, Taylor!!

This is Arlo. He is a handsome little guy and is our first child to begin helmet therapy with us. He presents with asymmetrical brachycephaly (flattening of the occipital region of the cranium - with one side more affected than the other). As Orthotists, we are trained to offer an orthotic treatment program called ‘Cranial Remolding’. Our goal with Arlo is to improve symmetry and increase AP length (forehead to occiput) while controlling ML width. This process focuses on redi...recting cranial growth by way of a custom-made cranial orthosis (helmet). Typically, treatment is most effective between 4 and 12 months, when cranial growth is at its peak. If you have any questions or want to know if this treatment program is right for your child, please contact us at (807) 345-4665.

Although our profession is evidence-based, there is definitely a trial-and-error component as well. Dave, our Certified Pedorthist, has been working with his patient (who is diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth) to come up with something that will help him ambulate safely and without pain. From left to right, we have the modified plaster cast, custom EVA foot orthosis with plantar reliefs, and a custom shoe. There are likely modifications to be done still, but we’re on the right track!

Here is our friend Amy. She required an elbow brace that would offload the medial epicondyle while allowing unrestricted flexion/extension ROM. We decided to use a single Oklahoma joint on the lateral side with a floating padded Ergo-flex medial section set inside a polypropylene external structure. Oh, and did we mention she likes purple

Custom really means custom! This client requested rigid supports to be attached to his AFOs, used to externally rotate the feet while sitting in his powered scooter. We’ve made them adjustable, giving him the ability to change the degree of rotation as he wishes. That was fun!

Our technicians are dreading the end of the month, as that is when Jenn finishes up her 4-week work term with us. She is here from George Brown College’s O&P technical program and has been doing a great job! We’re happy that she decided to come to Thunder Bay to give us a helping hand.
