The Town of Canmore is a proud partner of the REST Program - Pilot, which is working to keep people without shelter safe. Although the REST pilot program at St. Michael's Anglican church does not officially launch until March 1, 2021, the program was able to help several individuals find a safe, warm place to stay during this frigid cold snap. We would like to say a big thank you to Rocky Mountain Ski Lodge and The Canmore Hotel Hostel for working with the REST program: you saved lives.

Canmore Fire-Rescue reminds everyone that holiday season is fire season. Enjoy a safe and happy holiday this year, even if the way we celebrate looks a bit different. Use extension cords wisely. Be careful not to overload electrical outlets with lights, decorations, and appliances as this can create overheating that could result in fire. Never put cords under rugs. Halloween is coming in hot this year (hello, full moon!), but don't let the goblins and ghouls trick you into forgetting about COVID-19. Here are some ways to stay safe if you are planning to attend a Halloween party this year: If you are sick (even just a little bit), stay home. Spend time with people you know. The smaller the group the better.... If possible, host your party outside. It’s easier to keep a healthy distance between guests and there’s better air circulation. (See guidance for Outdoor Events here: bit.ly/37rZ7dR) If the party is indoors, keep it small and maintain 2 metres away from people in other families and cohorts. (See guidance for Indoor Events here bit.ly/2ILcJGO) Don't share drinks, snacks, candy, etc. And resist the temptation to bob for apples. Choose games and activities that don’t involve sharing items, and allow for physical distancing. Set up art and craft stations so that each guest has their own materials (no sharing). Instead of face painting, hand out temporary tattoos or stickers that guests can put on themselves. Make sure any shared items are sanitized between uses. Wash or sanitize your hands often. Have hand sanitizer easily accessible. For more tips from the Government of Alberta on ways to safe this Halloween season, visit bit.ly/2H9vfZf
